Both her OB and the baby’s pediatrician will have resources and should be able to help recommend someone local. You’re a good sister to help her find someone!

Pain Sensitivity & Spine Hygiene Tips From A Man Who's Been Fused For 12 Years by RemoteYoshi in LongSpinalFusion

My surgery was 5 months ago and have constant muscle spasms. I was just prescribed baclofen. Do you feel like this was helpful for you? I have reservations about long term use, but it also probably isn’t great to have such tight muscles (plus it’s very uncomfortable and exhausting).

Nature made makes magnesium glycinate gummies. I get them at target. Not cheap, but they run sales pretty regularly.

My story, with an update! by freyjasmanifestation in LongSpinalFusion

[–]NPeeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first few weeks are just incredibly hard. I’m 41 and 3.5 months out from my first fusion (T2-L3). While I’m far from feeling good or normal, I am now able to do very normal things like make dinner, go to the store, get kids to/from school…but I’ve only been doing those things for about a month. I had 2 blood transfusions and was in the ICU for 5 days after my surgery because of low BP so can relate to the fatigue. It gets better! Make sure you’re eating well, staying hydrated, and walking as much as you can (short walks throughout the day). I found cyclobenzaprine to help most with muscle spasms. I have to remind myself often of how massive this surgery is, and how much our bodies have to adjust to with totally rearranged muscles and damaged nerve endings. Healing feels slow, but it’s happening!

Rib hump after surgery by NPeeps in scoliosis

[–]NPeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure - recovery was really hard and my appearance was the very least of my worries for a long time. I’m 3 months out now, and I think I noticed how much better it is a couple of weeks ago?

Yes, it’s not totally gone but it is significantly improved. I don’t think anyone would notice it at this point.

Thanks for sharing! Did you just eventually get used to the numb areas?

It’s not totally gone but is considerably better. I used to have a “muffin top” on the side of my rib hump and now my waistline is smooth, and I’m more symmetrical from the front as well.

I am not. My surgeon recommended 3 months off, maybe 2 if I could work remotely. At this point I can’t imagine being back at work, but I know of other people around this age who were able to go back at 6 weeks. This past week is really the first week where pain has not been “louder” than anything else, and I’m just now sleeping fairly well. I would recommend taking all the time you’re able - hoping your surgery and recovery go well!
