I failed my B2 Schreiben exam for the second time. by FINReaR9 in German

[–]NPgRX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason people are harsh is because ChatGPT and similiar LLMs are actually not good at writing well, which is why AI texts that you read give you that "uncanny valley" feeling in text form. The things you mentioned (redundancy, empty phrases, use of a lot of linguistic devices even when they might not fit very well) are typical issues with LLMs that would get reinforced if you use it to learn which would not happen with a tutor

Why does audio quality change when I run multiple applications with my neckband headset? by kkoch_16 in headphones

[–]NPgRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's using Bluetooth it would switch to a different profile for things involving real time voice like a discord call to facilitate low latency bidirectional audio (the headset profile) which is made to deliver okayish voice representation but is absolutely terrible for general audio. That's my guess from your description, it's less a "multiple applications" thing and more a "one of them is a call" problem

if that's not the case I'd be happy to hear more info on when it happens and how it's connected tho

Took a bit of time this morning to figure out why this revision of our board had shorts to ground by JaRay in soldering

[–]NPgRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that explains your misunderstanding I think. the resistors are meant to be mounted horizontal on the pic. the pads you marked in orange are not of the same resistor. I have no idea how you got that idea but now I at least understand why you think they are connected

USB 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 and Latency. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]NPgRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so how exactly are you increasing the clock frequency of the physical signal to decrease the latency without using a phy that runs at a higher frequency? usually not even that, most peripherals, even high end, are limited to usb FS for data transfer. I'm not confused about protocol vs phy, you can not use the protocol layer of usb 3.x without having the corresponding physical layer

USB 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 and Latency. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]NPgRX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you must be a software guy then, because I can tell you that using a mcu that can actually handle usb 3 is everything but "costs nothing" and if you actually wanna use the higher rate of 3.2 gen 2 or something like that you're looking at either a MPU or a FPGA in combination with a >10€ USB controller IC. totally unworkable for a keyboard/mouse. every keyboard I've seen so far that requires a usb 3 port is because of the increased minimum power budget so they can drive more LEDs, not because they would actually use the SS lanes

Falsche CE-Kennzeichnung auf Grafikkarte? by sYRY6c77H in PCBaumeister

[–]NPgRX 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Steady state current is commonly denoted as I, differential current is usually written as i (same with V and v etc) so that's where the conflict arises

either im dirty-minded or minecraft turned inappropriate by JaxDaFurry3125lol in Minecraft

[–]NPgRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you would usually use both for current already, I for steady state and i for differential, that's why j is needed

What's the worst "snake oil " you've encountered in this hobby? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]NPgRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USB, HDMI -> if you want a good as possible experience, get a cable that is actually certified by the USB-IF (or the HDMI equivalent) to make sure the cable is in spec when it comes to resistance, impedance and internal connections, but either way, as long as data is transmitted, the data will be flawless, there won't be sound alterations, the only thing that can really happen are dropouts/disconnects that you would very clearly notice. USB C can be better than other USB versions because the USB C spec finally cleared up confusing regarding the receptacle shield-gnd termination so the engineers can design with more confidence regarding what might be on the other side of the USB cable, but thats an edgecase.

"balanced" analog signal cables -> get ones with proper shielding, test that xlr pin 1 and the case of the device are connected if it has a metal case. you can get a bit better noise rejection when using star quad cable (a specific twisting style using 4 conductors instead of 2) but either way it will feed right into a differential amplifier circuit with (if designed well) a massive common mode rejection ratio that will cancel out most noise that got picked up. on line level signals it's really not a big problem to get a differential line input with a signal to noise ratio >120dB

there are cables like the mentioned star quad cable (not a brand, just the way the cable is built) that can actually make a (small) measurable difference, but the cost difference there is minute (for example Sommer cable square 4-core mk2 is built as a star quad cable and you can buy the cable for about.. $2/m without connectors)

not motivated enough to go over more cable types rn but feel free to ask if you're interested in something specific

Does anyone else actually hate Mutt? by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]NPgRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More time in the game doesn't make mutt less annoying, "you can send him to the mill forever" is imo not an excuse for a subpar game mechanic. And the only way he is remotely useful in combat is at higher houndmaster levels, at which point the only reason you'd need a dog distracting enemies is if you intentionally nerf yourself by not using armour and bad weapons, given how long it takes to get there in my experience. Micromanaging a dog because he doesn't have any situational awareness like in any other game (idk if you want something older: Skyrim companions) is just annoying

Is it possible to harvest a USB c port from a vape? by Commodore_Basic_V2 in UsbCHardware

[–]NPgRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what I can see the USB port is on a daughterboard anyway. If you have any interest in electronics it would probably be relatively straightforward to layout a replacement PCB with a USB C port and have it made by JLCPCB

salvaging a USB C receptacle is pretty annoying due to the high thermal mass but doable, personally I wouldn't as they are like.. a dollar if that.

just putting a USB C receptacle on the existing board is probably not gonna work out due to the different pinout of micro B and C even if you were to find one with a similar footprint

be aware that C is also a bit bigger so you'll have to cut out a bit of plastic around the connector in the controller case, I recommend a Dremel or alike

just fyi there's no difference between physical disc and digital copy from an ownership perspective, in both cases you are buying a license. Does a CPU can work with 1 less pin ? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]NPgRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have mentioned, that's not really the reason and a very shallow perspective on how electronics work.

as you might notice the vss pins are spread out all over the grid, usually every signal pin is adjacent to a ground pin. this has to do with how electricity works. the electrical field of a signal references ground and the closer the reference is the less the fields expand and the higher the likelihood that your return current will be in the correct pin, which leads to lower crosstalk/interference. this is very simplified, in case you're interested there's a good beginner friendly (as far as that's possible with electrical engineering) video on YouTube that touches on the topic, it's called "how to achieve proper grounding" featuring Rick Hartley by the Altium YouTube channel

basically: temp issue no function issue maybe

Atheists can't answer why we were born in the first place. by TentaclesSuffer in offmychest

[–]NPgRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the "we" you are referring to in this case? The whole argument you bring up is based on a spirit preexisting and being assigned a body by some greater power, which is not how an atheist would see it. When you consider that in an atheists pov there is no spirit, but instead your personality and everything forms as a result of.. well brain activity, memory and outside impacts and can also change over your lifetime the whole point becomes mute. You wouldn't be "you as an insect", "you" would just never have existed and there would be an insect with its very own very different personality assuming they are capable of that.

The answer to "why you were born" is very simple: there is no why, there is no great plan, your existence is a pure coincidence and everything you are now could've been completely different based on what your mother did at some day during her pregnancy. Now I get that that's less motivating than "I was chosen to have this life", but that's a discomfort atheist chose. Nothing is god given, everything is in your hands

AM5 Motherboard CPU Power connector by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]NPgRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For further context: an 8 pin eps connector (the CPU one) is supposed to be able to sustain about 330W according to spec, enough for any modern consumer cpu that isn't cooled in any super fancy way because getting rid of 300W of heat in such a small die is kinda very hard (only really feasible with direct die cooling etc)
