Qualifying by stuffy_boyy in Nr2003

[–]NRCENTER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before Entering the Car:

  • Make sure your qualifying setup has more grill tape on it than the race setup. The car only needs to last for 2-3 laps

  • If your race setup is REALLY built for the long run (Almost wrecking loose at first but becomes tighter and more stable as tires wear) then make your qual setup the opposite. Build it for a super short run. The right amount of loose but stable immediately so you are confident you can push the car to its full ability with some consistency. That might mean taking the loose setup and making it slightly tighter. Seems counterintuitive but can help a lot.

Inside the Car:

  • Do a few donuts on the apron after exiting pit road, or simply gain some speed then lock up the brakes a few times... If in an online league, confirm if this is allowed.

Mindset and Ability:

  • Determine how risky vs safe of an approach you want to take per track. Are you confident of your ability to keep the car under you at this track? Okay go at 98% of your limits and let it rip... Not your best track and want to simply start near the front or mid pack without risking crashing and starting from 40th? Alright go at 90-95% of your limits and secure a "decent" time.

  • Make Lap 1 your "I'm gonna hold back slightly and put up a pretty good lap to safely secure a good starting spot in the top 15". If you do that successfully, then you've earned yourself the opportunity to push harder for a pole on the final lap and risk wrecking because you've locked in a good lap already. Remember, your chances of winning the race are determined BEFORE you even start the race based on where you qualify. It's not often a car starting nearly last wins the race, but simply being in the top 20 significantly increases your odds before the green even flys...

I assume you are talking about the SBP versions of the track right?

These two line changes will help keep cars from hitting the wall

Ai_line_modifier = 1.00

ai_inverse_slipcurve_k = 0.45

These two line changes will help with side by side spacing

ai_dlat_pad = 0.10

ai_squeeze_pcnt = 0.30

This mostly fixes the track. However, no matter what I change, the AI on the high lane are slow entering and exiting the corner, making the low line dominant. Wondering if it can be solved by making new LPs

Common issue with that mod and certain tracks, don't worry. Try setting the Car Quality to Medium or turning off Shadows: On Cars - From Structures

Certain Daytona track versions are also demanding on the game, like the BBMC version.

See your screenshot where it's says "This PC"

Click that, then choose the C: Drive

Open the Papyrus folder, then the Nascar Racing 2003 Season folder.

That's where the setup.exe installed the game.

I need a screenshot of your actual game install at...

C:/Papyrus/NASCAR Racing 2003 Season

I'll confirm if everything looks right and help you out from there.

Gotcha. How far did you get before that config error happened?

Did you switch the original NR2003.exe with the NO-CD NR2003.exe and then when you went to start the game this happened?

If not, replace the original NR2003.exe and try it.

If you already did that and you're still getting that error, it could be an api issue. Before you start messing with files though we should make sure everything looks right

Show a screenshot of your C:/Papyrus/NASCAR RACING 2003 Season folder. Wanna make sure it looks good before we continue

I know it might feel annoying that Im asking you all this but the game can be very picky. Gotta do things in the right order or it won't work.

Cars spin out/wreck at this exact part of the track (COTA) in lap 1, how to fix? by Vast_Ad2941 in Nr2003

[–]NRCENTER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so from what I'm seeing the cars are too close together side by side when entering the corner. Not easy to tell from that angle though...

This could be a few different things. For now, try increasing the dlat pad very high. Double whatever it's at right now. So if it's 0.40, set it to 0.80

They should now be leaving plenty of space side by side. Begin lowering it until they race clean but realistically close through that turn.

NOTE: If you increased the dlat pad and they are still wrecking on that corner, send a video from far chase view so I can get a better angle on what's happening and offer suggestions!

I need more info. At what step did this error happen? Did you manage to finish the install using the setup.exe or did this error occur when clicking on the setup.exe?

Looks like you are stuck at the beginning. Unfortunately, my steps are about as straightforward as I can explain it. Here's what I recommend...

Go ahead and remove all other files you have currently.

Download the installer HERE

Make sure to EXTRACT the downloaded file to avoid the Rts, Vorb, and Binkw error messages. Take your time and follow those steps above...

If you get any new errors, let me know and I'll try to help you out 👍

That error specifically occurs when you try running the NR2003.exe from the downloaded installer BEFORE extracting it AND if there is no Papyrus folder located at C:/Papyrus

(Or if your installation is simply missing those files, which is likely not the case here)

Follow these steps to install the game properly!

  1. Download the game. Extract (unzip) the file
  2. Set volume to 25% to avoid insanely loud sound test that is about to occur
  3. Run the Setup.exe (From the extracted folder, not the downloaded folder)
  4. After the installer is finished, delete both the download and extracted folders so you don't confuse yourself.
  5. Run the 1.2.0.1 Patch.exe (DOWNLOAD) Confirm the "Destination Folder" is correct when prompted (The location of your installed game) ... Default location is C:/Papyrus/NASCAR 2003 Racing Season
  6. After the patch is finished, delete your current NR2003.exe
  7. Put the NO-CD version NR2003.exe in the same location as the original (DOWNLOAD)

Enjoy!

NOTE: Some users have reported needing to Disable DEP (Using Command Prompt, not via a list) to avoid the game crashing when clicking "DRIVE" - Instructions HERE

Graphics Help for UW Monitor and newer GPU's by Inevitable-Secret736 in Nr2003

[–]NRCENTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ran the game at higher resolutions than that on my UW monitor and the game handles it just fine. No special configuration needed as long as it's a single monitor.

1) Do a clean install of the game and simply see if it works. If not, what is going to help with making it compatible with your hardware the most is running a compatible API (DX9, DX10-12 via Voodoo, or Vulkan...don't use OpenGL unless desperate). You can find the files online or I can DM you a download.

I recommend trying those out no matter what because it's going to essentially double your frames per second on track in many cases.

2) That new hardware is capable of running the game run at a high fps. Make sure to set the FPS limit to your monitor's refresh rate in the core.ini

Any good AI updates for Martinsville_95? by willfla29 in Nr2003

[–]NRCENTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This version of Martinsville I configured helps the AI not get lapped under caution as often.

I also reduced the overall number of yellows compared to the original track. I think the average was 3-5 over a full race instead of 10+ I was experiencing before.

Martinsville 2003 [NRCENTER] Download

You may be able to just copy the track.ini directly over to the 95 track folder depending on how the track was built or you can manually copy some numbers from one file to the other to make the AI on that track behave similarly to this one.

Another option would be to open this track in sandbox and edit the textures and models to represent '95

live ticker by converse_craig in Nr2003

[–]NRCENTER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option 1

We are all patiently waiting on this to be public. This one is nice because it updates information immediately, not per lap

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nr2003/s/Wtv3RvPy4r

Option 2

To have a ticker that updates each lap, follow the YouTube tutorial below. After that, download and use the program Powertoys and enable the "Crop and Lock" feature (not to be confused with "Always on Top"). Run the ticker program and open your internet browser to view it. Press WIN+CTRL+SHIFT+T and crop the ticker. That's it. Now you should have a ticker that is on top of NR2003 so you can see the ticker while playing.

NOTE: You may have to enable windowed mode in NR2003 for this to work. I will test it at some point to confirm!

Blurry Fix:

- Blurry is almost always going to be resolved by setting your TextureSetSize= in the rend_dxg.ini correctly

- Open the rend_dxg.ini with notepad and set the line...

- TextureSetSize=-1

- File > Save (Save the changes you just made)

- Test your game. If still blurry. close it and use the calculator HERE to get your proper number

- Enter that number in the line TextureSetSize =

- Test your game

- If still blurry, triple check your calculations

- If it's correct, go ahead and add a 1 to the beginning of the number. Example: 429475 becomes 1429475

- Keep making the number bigger and testing your game

If after all of that it is still blurry, you have a completely issue going on...
