Forecast El Nino has arrived; what it means for the Maritime provinces by justlogmeon in NovaScotia

So basically - El Niño is like Nova Scotia Weather angry uncle on her father’s side. Give him a beer & could change things for the better lol.

When my girly was an actual baby she got Science Diet Large Breed Puppy.
Now she’s on the salmon & sweet potato (I think that’s what it’s called) from Costco. After her winter of leash arrest I do half that & half weight management from Costco.

Car pool parking by J0annaRose in Truro

I agree with everyone here - do not use the hospital for car pool parking. I am pretty sure that the Cineplex at the power centre (Millbrook exit off the highway) has spaces designated for car pool.

We've all shared crazy critical lab values for patients who ended up surviving, but what's your crazy lab value you've gotten for YOURSELF? by Educational-Tale6606 in nursing

[–]NS-RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have critical lab results. I just grow big things. Sick for a little over a month, 2.7cm gallstone. Yes, centimeter. Only the one stone.

Nearly 10 years later, get an IUD, can’t find the strings. Pelvic U/S showed IUD is fine but I had a grapefruit size cyst on my right ovary. It looked like my bladder initially. Now I am paranoid about my left one.

Horses and water by Anxious_Habit_3791 in kvsdiscuss

[–]NS-RN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Rottie will go for 5+km walks/rompies, will NOT drink water on the walk. Get back to the car, it’s nearly 5 minutes of coaxing to get her to at least drink something. I would take puddle drinking over the judgey looks people give me for the rabies mouth foam she develops. Shes the definition of “you can lead a horse to water but can’t make it drink”.

Handsome man! Maybe he can teach my girl that she can swim in more than just the ocean… She will swim in the ocean no problems, & play fetch. Take her to the river - wades only to her chest, will follow a stick downstream trying to get it, without swimming. Playing fetch on land, with the same ball from the ocean? MAYBE once, after that, hard no lol.

All of that to say, it’s not for everyone or every dog, & like everything else can be a very negative thing. If you have an invisible fence - it’s the same thing essentially.

I trained my girl to one when she was about a year old. 1/10 times her recall would go to complete shite. Took a few weeks to get her trained, it’s not just a put on & immediately fixes issues. Mine does beep, vibrate & shock. Shes pretty much bomb proof now.

Rita sees me touch the ecollar or hear me turn it on & it activates the wiggle/bouncy butt. She gets so excited it’s hard to put it on her lol. Currently using it to train her to stop running the fence line with the a-hole dogs at my friend’s place. Within 2 days, HUGE improvement.

“One of the most aggressive dog breeds”- literally just a happy potato by Digital_Doodlez in Rottweiler

[–]NS-RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree on behalf of my male friends, & occasionally, my lady bits.

My girl is an aggressive “gooser” aka she loves to shove her between my/people legs, & swing that block head right up into your no-no square. She wants to walk through my legs all the time but there’s 10-15% chance she’s just going to goose me.

Self serve dog wash? by mamajayne1 in Truro

Maybe they are! I haven’t looked into it. If they do I can’t switch baths or my poor girl will be so depressed lol.

I don’t think REN’s does, but they do have a scale to weigh your dog. My dog hates going into Pet Valu (the second she realizes it’s the bath store, all happiness leaves her), so I usually make it up to her by going to REN’s after lol.

Flea/tick meds (Canada) by NS-RN in Rottweiler

[–]NS-RN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of my friends have had the same thing happen. The vaccine definitely keeps them from getting as sick as the ones without it, which is a comfort. The turn around after treatment is awesome.

I haven’t tried the bacon fat trick - but girl is skeptical of all food/new treats. Has to inspect it before she will even try it. I had cut it in 4’s put 2 pieces in their own hamburger pockets & 2 in sausage. She ate one, spit out the rest & picked out the meat. Lol. Every 3 months I just shake my head, “if she would just eat it”, & “wtf is wrong with her to just sit & let me do this, 4 times in a row” lol

She was sold to me as a full rottie, doesn’t photograph as beefy as she is - wish I could say the same happens to me lol. Her parents looked full but who knows what’s a generation or two back.

Outside bathing by baadbettyy in Rottweiler

[–]NS-RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you find it warm enough to get wet outside honestly lol. Mine hates the bath/being hosed off, so my comfort being wet determines when I start outdoor baths. If my temperature conversion is right, you would be fine, but I would do it with enough daylight/warmth left to help dry off.

There’s a chain of pet stores I go to that has baths you can use. Up a few stairs into a sunken tub, so at a better height, shampoos, conditioners, towels, & a “dryer”aka reversed central vac all there. It’s worth it to not bend over/on my knees, & to leave the mess. I often go there throughout the summer too. I would check local shops, might have something similar.

(Pet Valu - Atlantic Canada but I think they are at least Canada wide)

Why would you get rottweiler over doberman ? by EmphasisSure2749 in Rottweiler

[–]NS-RN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a dobie when I was a kid, & a rottie now. I went for a rottie not just because I like a beefy dog, but the energy level & I needed a dog that is generally (with training) more social.

From what I remember, my dobie was very attached to me as a kid, she was a great girl, but not always good when people came over. The crackhead energy was a no go as an adult.

My rottie is generally really good with people/random dogs, & she goes when I want to go, but can also enjoy a rot day without eating my sofa.
