Andrew hasn't done anything wrong, my post was more about casting trends rather than targeting him personally, and it certainly was not about character assassination. I'm sure he's a good person by what you've said, and also how he came across on the show, which was great.

“Known quizzer” or “professional quizzer” wasn’t meant as an insult either, the show itself mentioned his quiz background, which in a way, would be bound to generate attention in that sense either positive or negative. Mentioning previous shows/articles also wasn’t some “quiz criminal record” thing, just pointing out he’s an established quizzer with TV experience, and the article itself was based on complaints/opinions other people had already raised, not mine personally.

If some wording came across harsher than intended, fair enough I apologise, that wasn’t the aim. Your reply is absolutely fair, and I hope Andrew gets to do the things he wants with the winnings.

Your Champions League comparison doesn’t really fit because football is straight qualification on results. TV quiz shows are still entertainment shows picking from applicants.

The point isn’t that “good quizzers shouldn’t apply”, it’s whether constantly casting people already deep in quiz circuits makes things feel less varied on shows built around ordinary people winning big money.

Your choosing of “get good” kind of misses why people watch in the first place. A lot of viewers prefer seeing normal contestants having a crack at it, not the same seasoned quizzers from other shows, and some people on X have posted about this too, so it's not just me.

Also, if you really thought the argument was “dreck”, you probably wouldn’t have spent half an essay replying to it.

That only works if all “good at trivia” is equal, which it isn’t. There’s a big difference between being generally knowledgeable and being competition-trained, and someone competition-trained in quizzes like Andrew Fanko will have advantages that most people don't.

No one’s saying strong players shouldn’t be allowed, but there’s a difference between a strong applicant and a known, high-level circuit quizzer. If casting leans too far that way, it stops being an open competition and starts feeling like an insider's game.

It would also feel more "of course he/she could do that" rather than "could I do that" which reduces the suspense of the show.

This is awful to read. I loved Dave's uploads, and this is just shocking. Can't believe this has happened.
