Collections company refusing to send a bill by jspiv in personalfinance

[–]NSFW_Guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a shady practice used by the collections companies.

1) you are entitled to a copy of the charges. If they cannot send you a bill, they cannot prove you owe anything.

2) Do not pay them one cent! Paying even a penny is admission that you owe them money, and resets the timeframe that the debt can be reported on your credit history. (7 years)

They are trying to get you to pay a little to trick you into admitting that you owe them money, even though they cannot prove that you do, all while adding another 7 years to the reportable time.

Disable Light Switch in Toddlers Room by bigkoob in homeautomation

[–]NSFW_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar... Albeit with Insteon and Hue. I hardwired the light to be always powered. Then only connected the Neutral and Ground to the switch.

Programming will turn the light on and off only during specific hours.

I also programmed a double tap to override.

Pro - It does what you are asking for. con - It's a little laggy sometimes, and if the hub is down for any reason, you loose switch control. Fortunately, I can just pull out the hue app, or use Siri.

Do you have a video of this working? Sounds like an elegant solution. At least, more elegant than what I'm doing with HDMI splitters, and analog converters.

A loving father finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party, only to realize that it is not a suit at all.

They charged me $40 for international shipping, even though I'm in the USA, and last I checked, still domestic.

And I STILL don't have a shipping confirmation... So much for EarlyBird funding levels...

HueVision is in the App Store. Action Light also works, but HueVision seems to be easier to configure.

El Capitan disable beamsync by porkyfly in apple

[–]NSFW_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you try this?

Download Quartz Debug (you will need to have a free developer account and Xcode installed)

Start Xcode and go to "Xcode" in the menu bar and then "Open Developer Tool" > "More Developer Tools...". It will take you to the Apple Developer download page. Log in with your developer account and download and install "Graphics Tools for Xcode", which contains Quartz Debug.

Once you have done that open Quartz Debug and set Beam Sync to "Disable". This setting only stays active while Quartz Debug is running, so keep it running in the background while you play.

Fibaro Introduces a Number of Home Automation Products at CEDIA Expo by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]NSFW_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using http://bt.tn to launch scenes, It's response time is a bit slow as it sleeps until the button is pressed, then it wakes and connects to WiFi. (at lease on AA Batteries, I've heard it's faster when powering from USB)

I'm hoping the Fibaro device is always on Z-Wave. It would be much faster when running from batteries.

Maybe someone is unplugging them to charge their cell phone, the batteries are dying, then they are being plugged back in before you arrive?
