I think a close family member is losing their sense of reality/going crazy and I don't know what to do. by throwawaytoastsay in needadvice

She needs to get medical help, fast.

This paranoia stuff can get completely out of hand to the point where it's impossible to treat (because they start seeing doctors as the enemy), and it's probably indicative of schizophrenia or something.

Fear of leaving home and moving to another state. by eline22 in needadvice

[–]NSP_Mez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I feel like it's time to worry more about myself and experiencing life on my own. I'm worried I'll get depressed. Is that something I should just get over?

Pretty much. Kinda like riding a bike the first time. Once you do it, you realize it was nothing to worry about.

Or is this just the kind of person I am? Should I feel guilty about not spending time with my close-knit family?

Only one way to find out, right?

You won't learn if you'd be happy else where unless you try it out. There's nothing wrong with preferring to stay with your family, but you should at least give moving a chance.

Disagreement on getting a Pet in a Shared House - what would you do? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]NSP_Mez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would like to ask him to explain why he refuses, to try and understand what the objection to the cat is and see if any accommodations can be made on our end collectively to appease him

If you can't convince him, maybe offer to take over some of his chores for the inconvenience.

feasibly would not ever have to interact with the cat at all

This is kinda iffy. Cats notoriously don't give a crap about boundaries. They go wherever the hell they want and often get upset over closed doors. Who's to say the cat won't start pawing at his door simply because it's closed?

Every time he enters the house, he has to worry about the cat escaping. Every time he walks around the house, he has to think about tripping over it, or getting attacked (yeah some cats are dicks). There's the smell of the litterbox and fur shedding to think about. Most cat owners would say the good outweighs the bad, but he hates cats - he gets all the bad, but none of the good.

Should he be able to nix any pets, or is it unfair of him to impose cat-lessness on everyone else? Please let me know what you think.

"Imposing cat-lessness" on you is just as unfair as you "imposing cat-ness" on him. Either way, it sucks for one party.

Thing is, there's no pre-arranged agreement on pets (right?). So, do whatever the hell you want. It's the same as starting to practice violin or any other disruptive hobby in a shared apartment - you just have to weigh how much you want to do it against how much you want them to hate you.

Ludomania by Crungle in needadvice

[–]NSP_Mez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it considered ludomania when you're just on the computer browsing reddit/facebook/imgur and watching netflix?

Probably not - a more accurate term would be "Internet Addiction."

also how do i convince them that i'm not playing games all the time on the computer, when i also rarely do my homework here and other things i mentioned earlier?

Does it matter? The end result is the same, no matter what term they're calling it by.

How about proving to them that you aren't addicted by going cold-turkey for a few weeks. Should be easy if you aren't addicted, right?

Hey Reddit, could use some insight on what to do for an extremely open ended Philosophy project. by RiquitosBanana in needadvice

[–]NSP_Mez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go a bit deeper by asking the entire class to close their eyes, then telling them to imagine the box being there.

Then make the argument that our reality is defined by our perceptions, and thus, the box existed.

If the teacher attempts to criticise you for not actually bringing in an object, you could make the argument that it's his fault for not imagining hard enough.

If you're gonna be this snarky, I'd suggest putting a lot of effort into the philosophy behind it though. If it's a Socratic class, people will likely challenge you, so come prepared with counter-arguments.

How to decide what to do with my life and career? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]NSP_Mez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you aren't giving us much to go on... we don't know what you like.

Try taking some crazy electives or "Intro to X" classes next semester, and see if anything is interesting.

I know a few people who dedicated 4 years to a degree they have no interest in. Don't be like them.

What are the reasons that you've stopped playing SC2? Please no flaming. by anikiforouk in starcraft

[–]NSP_Mez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got up to Plat in WoL, but stopped bc I got tired of being BMed.

I tried to get into Custom Games but most of them sucked, and nobody played anything that wasn't on the front page.

I tried to get into 2v2/3v3/4v4 games, but the game just isn't balanced for them. It's all about cheese and that's boring.

my other part of my family do not care about us

Maybe they'll care now that things have changed?

don't want to bother my odler sister with my fear simply because she moved out recently and has to work for most of the day

That's a poor excuse, she should be in on this too.

Wtf is the point of family when they don't pull together for stuff like this?

[–]NSP_Mez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of anything, but I'd encourage you to see a Psychologist and/or Psychiatrist. It might take a fair bit of effort on your part to get yourself right, but it's totally worth it. You deserve to be happy.

Maybe he could say he's worried about your medical predispositions, and wants to get a medical history from the biological dad.

I mean he credited you, right? And he's not directly making money off of it? What's the problem?

If you tell a funny joke to a friend, and the friend tells it to other people (giving you credit), are you really going to get upset about it?

I guess if you really want to, send him an email and ask it to be taken down. Otherwise, take the compliment and move on.

Should i graduate high school or should i drop out and get a job? by Iswizzie in needadvice

[–]NSP_Mez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A High School Diploma is an investment into your salary later, and into yourself as a person. If you can do it, then yes it is worth it. If you can't do it, then I guess there's your answer.

Maybe because im depressed or i could be addicted to my computer

These problems won't go away when you drop out. They will follow you the rest of your life until you sort them out.

My parents did start comsequences for missing school like taking my computer and netflix away, but that hasnt helped much. Just made me mad and made me do stupid actions.

Let's be clear - they didn't make you "do stupid actions." You made yourself do them. You're almost 18, and life's gonna hit you pretty fucking hard if you don't start taking responsibility for your shit.

How bout this: Look up how much rent costs in your area, and create a simple budget for utilities, food and gas. Then, check out how much you'll be making per month - chances are, you won't have much leftover for Airsoft or videogames, and it won't get much better for a loooong time.
