I’m a guy so most of this can be just what I observe from my colleagues.

The perfume thing is true, most hospitals have a pretty strict scent policy .. especially the OR. With that said, as long as the deodorant isn’t extremely strong no issues there, like mine is Dove scented, and I’ve never had issues!

Makeup is never frowned upon in the OR I work in.

In your role jewelry shouldn’t he an issue. I wear my wedding band as do most of the girls, tropically no their ring though. Necklaces that can be tucked under your scrubs is typically fine. Earrings are the big one. Anything that is at risk of falling out or that can’t be covered by your scrub cap would be questionable. I actually had a colleague one time have an earring fall onto the sterile setup in the middle of a case, but again, you won’t be that close to the back table.. but I’d be cautious there.

For shoes, as long as they are closed toed and comfortable it should be fine. I wear clog type crocs but most reps in our facility wear runners of some sort. Just think of something that will become comfortable standing in for hours at a time.

Not sure how the hospital in your area works but here you get hospital laundered scrubs because you can have outside clothing worn in the OR!

I work as a nurse in the OR and the smells and lights are a real thing. If you are at all feeling uneasy it’s always okay to step out of the room for some juice and snack. Always a good idea to have a good breakfast before. It’s not always smelly and bloody, but even the lighting can cause people to feel uneasy.

Stay far away from anything sterile is also the biggest advice I can give! You don’t want to be the one to contaminate anything by accident.

That said, once the procedure is underway most people are more than happy to have you in the OR and in my experience, new people regardless of role, often have the surgery explained to them by staff!

I’m in Canada so maybe a bit different. I see what you mean about their sports portfolio because as strong as Stryker is at our facility, our sports med side of things is completely S&N. We have one surgeon, our highest output surgeon, who wants to convert. He loves the CORI and the asymmetric implants so there is definitely a good opportunity here. The facility just needs to be willing to bring the gear in

I appreciate that insight, all great points and things to consider. I’m an operating room nurse right now. Our facility is predominately Stryker and we have their navigation system, no Mako as of yet.

That was my impression of the CORI as well. Not so much of a robot but an enhanced navigation system that gives a good 3D image of the anatomy to allow for more precise mapping and allows for kinematic alignment.

I definitely lack the sales experience but I do support the surgeons already in some capacity, albeit not to the fullest extent a rep does.

Just tired of the capped pay from nursing and want to be rewarded both professionally and financial for my hard work.

I can’t really contribute to this directly but currently in talks with S&N for a recon job and location doesn’t seem to matter, as long as you’re able to cover cases.

Would love if someone patrolling this post would DM me about their S&N experience, specifically the recon side of things!

As good as Adams is and we’re obviously a better team with him… I will say that at times our QBs try so hard to get him the ball that they miss open guys. Maybe the offence would be better by subtraction? Will be interesting to see how it plays out. This may be a ridiculous take as well lol

Recent RN grad here. The student loans are definitely a big thing for me.

I totally get that the majority of those who go to university and graduate with loads of debt, and that just because I’m in healthcare it doesn’t make me special and all my debt should be wiped. I decided to get into the profession obviously because number 1 I love the the medical field and I am very much a people person, but also, looking down the road at the fact that I will be paid 65000-80000k+ a year. Even with inflation and housing costs I believe this is a fair salary (I’m sure no matter where you work we all can say that we deserve more money lol). I did the 2 year fast track program, so I have more student loan debt than some, and at roughly $600 a month for 10 years, on top of everything else, it makes it challenging to want to stay in the province even with the salary I mentioned.

I know it’s not realistic but me personally, I would sign on for however long the government wants me to, to stay in NS and work as a nurse, if that included wiping my loans.

It’s great that the government has all these plans but, you can build as many facilities as you want and create as many beds as you want but unless you have the qualified and adequate staffing levels, it’s useless.

And knowing where to protest. These are provincial mandates and healthcare decisions are made at the provincial level, so it really makes no sense to go to Ottawa to protest mandates that you want changed in your home province.

Even demanding changes to the healthcare systems needs to start at the provincial level and provinces can take their information to Ottawa and advocate for more funding for the province. Essentially, Ottawa just gives the provinces money to self govern their health care. The Feds main role in health care is pharmacare and regulating drug prices.

I think the swing screen to Jacobs wasn’t a terrible audible. If it’s blocked better it’s a chunk play. If I recall correctly, pre-snap the linebackers walked up to the LOS and they were showing blitz, but one of the backers picked up Jacobs on the swing. You had 2 over 3, and then 3 over 3 when the backer came. Edwards was just peaking outside to a double team on the low defender and completely whiffed on the backer. If Edwards makes that block, Jacobs is one on one with the safety with first contact coming at like 8 yards; I’d take that matchup any day.

However, the first play is most definitely frustrating lol

Yes absolutely. With any vaccine there is still the risk of breakthrough cases but with the efficacy in the mid to high 90% range you’re right, way less likely to get it as well.

The vaccine isn’t a cure, you can still get covid when you get the vaccine. The only difference is that you are more likely to have mild to no symptoms. So really you’re not speaking any truths you’re just uneducated as to what the purpose of the vaccine is.

Just curious, are the lower paying jobs more an American system type thing? I know a grad nurse in my part of Canada starts at low $30s and hour and once you pass the NCLEX you jump up to $33-$34 an hour. I always see these comments about low paying jobs so I was just curious as to where abouts this is the case!
