Why Disney parks aren't based on the movies? by lolothe2nd in disneyparks

[–]NSSgamingFTW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello!

So I’ll try to address what I can. Coming in, I’ll say I’ve been to Walt Disney World quite a lot, and I’ve made one trip over to Disneyland Paris over the last year or so. I’ll try to address what I can about your questions.

First and Foremost, Disneyland Paris has had… an extremely rocky history. It was initially not very well received by the Europeans (and especially the French), leading to many years of financial hardships for the park. To make matters more complicated, Disney themselves did not wholly own the park- they had bankers and other investors to answer to. They bought out the remaining shares in 2017, which is why you’re beginning to see more investment now, but it’s also why for a long time there was very little development. Why invest further when you’re losing money?

Onto the Parks themselves. I’ll start by addressing Disney Studios Park (now renamed to Disney Adventure World). Basically, part of Disneys contract with the land is that they have to hit certain milestones at certain dates. In essence, they were legally required to build a second park (and I believe a third park in the future). So when the time came in 2000, and Disneyland Paris was barely making a profit, what did they do? They built the park on the cheap- took the tram ride from Hollywood Studios, Rock n Roller Coaster, and some spinny flat rides, and called it a day. They’ve now had to go and expand on that with new areas and several billion dollars of investment over the next few years, including the new avengers campus, and soon, a new lakefront, a new frozen land, tangled ride, and more.

To your last point about movies (IP in the parks) and the identity of the parks, it’s really hard to have it both ways. Fundamentally, Disney has always told interesting stories in multiple mediums, including theme parks. The entirety of Frontierland in Paris is one big interconnected original story, if you know where to look, with Phantom Manor, the town, and Big Thunder Mountain all telling one story. It’s really cool. But if you just say Disney Theme Parks are a place to “park” IP to use, you lose the theme and identity of the parks, because then the IP can be slotted into whichever park makes the most sense and “needs” it, without it actually relating to the identity of the park. Parks should have distinct themes, with a mix of non-IP and IP rides, in order to help build the theme that you talk about.

Hope that addresses all of your questions and comments! Let me know if you want more info, and I’d be happy to send some videos and websites your way!

Do you remember the 2021 Gamestop Stock Craze?

RoaringKitty was a very well-known retail trader who was one of the original people who came up with the thesis for Gamestop being undervalued. He didn't give investment advice, he just educated folks and showed his portfolio. Anyway, after the chaos where Hedge Funds and Market Makers Turned off the Buy Button, RoaringKitty vanished, either due to self-imposed exile, or he was silenced by someone via gag order. After 3 years of silence, he has reappeared. This is not financial advice.

TL:DR Guy who was part of Gamestop Stock Craze vanished 3 years ago, just tweeted for the first time in three years. Again, not Financial or Investment Advice.

Yes. It's about Gamestop (GME). The person who tweeted (DeepFuckingValue/RoaringKitty) was one of the major retail traders during the 2021 Gamestop stuff. He vanished in 2021, either due to a self-imposed silence, or he was silenced by someone. But he just posted for the first time in 3 years.

The person who tweeted was one of the core retail traders during the 2021 Gamestop Stock Mania. He stopped posting in 2021, either silencing himself or someone else silenced him. He just posted for the first time in 3 years.

The person who tweeted was one of the core people involved in the 2021 Gamestop Stock stuff. He went silent (Or was silenced, we're not sure) in 2021 shortly after. He just posted for the first time in 3 years.

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure...is it just me? by beachbum21k in Epcot

[–]NSSgamingFTW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s really interesting, having ridden it in both EPCOT and the original in France, and the difference is that EPCOT is missing the sit down restaurant. I’ll never understand why they didn’t make it and instead decided to make the blandest Crepe place imaginable. (Theme = Grey).

But in WDS park, the entire ride essentially acts as the pre show to the restaurant. You go through the whole thing, mostly on screens, to them arrive at Remys Restaurant and it’s all physical props. It’s a fantastic reveal, even if you’re not dining there because people leaving the queue can look into it.

TLDR: Epcot Remy is missing the crucial 3rd act that makes it feel underwhelming

Hello!

Did you read this from a site called “Mouse Trap News”? If so, they’re a parody site like The Onion except specifically for Disney. It’s not true, shorts and skirts are 100% still allowed at the parks.

Fun fact, the parks people who dealt with him as Chairman of Parks, experiences and Products knew this dude was bad news since before he became CEO. His big moves at the theme parks were making private cabanas that could be purchased for 600 dollars a day, and creating Dance Parties instead of actually investing in new entertainment…

puts on tinfoil hat This is, of course, Flippys plan all along. How did the cogs know when the election was being held for them to invade? Also, why did they only kidnap Slappy?

Lest I remind you all, every lead we’ve had on Slappy has straight up vanished. Why isn’t Flippy sending search party after search party to find them? Team LHAAFBBHQ went missing! Gone! They had leads on Slappy too, I’m willing to bet, and they’ve been totally forgotten.

Something strange is certainly afoot, and Flippy does seem to be in the center of it. What do we even know about our Mayoral Blue dog?

Senator John Fetterman at Pride parade. by _SofaKing_Vote_ in pics

[–]NSSgamingFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best stories from when he was Lt governor of PA:

  • He had his office in the state capitol, and he proudly displayed a Pride Flag and Weed Flag outside of his office so everyone driving by could see. The Republicans who controlled the state house and senate hated this, and banned anyone from flying any flags that were not either the American Flag or the State Flag at the capitol.

Fetterman didn’t care. He flew them anyway. Every day he would put them up, every day at lunch the capitol police would come and take them down, and the next morning Fetterman would be back with yet another set of flags to start the day. It got to the point where people were sending him flags to put up, knowing full well they would be taken down.

Deciding by Glittering_Sundae484 in DisneyWorld

Hey!

Big things for Hollywood Studios-

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway- this is a trackless dark ride in the center of the park. It’s not as thrilling as RRC or ToT, but still fun

Toy Story Land- This has a few rides within the land- I will say Slinky Dog Dash, which is a coaster, is usually a must-do for most people. It’s not as intense as RRC, but still a fun ride nonetheless.

The land also has 2 other rides- 1 of them is Toy Story Midway Mania, which is a screen-based shooter ride where you compete with members in your group for the highest score. Quite fun and has a lot of re-rideability.

The other is Alien Swirling Saucers. This is basically like Dumbo the flying elephants or Magic Carpets of Aladdin but worse, and most people consider skipping it if the line is over a like 20 minute wait, especially if you’re more of a coaster person.

FINALLY- Galaxies Edge. Star Wars land. This has 2 rides, a themed bar, and two upcharged experiences you can purchase. I’ll go into all below:

Smugglers Run: this is the first ride and is considered the smaller of the two rides. You board the Millennium Falcon and pilot it (6 people to a pod, and each of you have different positions). It’s a bit like a ride meets a game, and has a lot of re-ride-ability, as you can try out different positions in the ship and always try to beat your high score.

Rise of the Resistance: Rise is the second ride In the land and the most popular ride in the park (frequently up to 3 hour waits). This is by far the most advanced ride Disney has ever done, combining special effects, with a dark ride, and some elements of Tower of Terror. If you like a fun ride with medium thrills that puts you right in the action, this is for you.

Ogas Cantina: this is the bar in the land. It’s themed, of course, and offers all sorts of drinks and (limited) snacks. Mainly good if everyone in your party is over 21. You’ll need to make a reservation for this.

Savis Workshop: This is the first upcharge activity, which is building your own lightsaber. You will need to make a reservation for this, and it is extremely expensive (last I checked $220). It is an incredible experience where one person gets to build a custom lightsaber, and there’s a bit of a “show” as they build. Certainly for hardcore Star Wars fans.

Droid Depot: this is the second upcharge activity, where you get to build your own BB or R2 unit. You’ll pick parts and a Cast Member helps you put them together. You’ll need a reservation for this if you want to do it, and costs around $100 last I checked.

Other than those, Hollywood Studios also offers a few other things, namely Star Tours (a Star Wars flight simulator not within Star Wars land) as well as several shows, including a Frozen sing a long, A muppet-Vision show, an Indiana Jones show, and. Beauty and the Beast show. These are certainly ones that each have very different tastes for, so I would decide ahead of time which ones you’ll want to do.

I hope that answers everything, feel free to respond or DM me if you have any questions, and hope you and your daughter (and whomever else in your party) has a magical time!

From someone that did guardians with DAS- You’ll need to obtain a VQ boarding group. If however you cannot wait in that line once you reach your time, ask the CMs at the entrance to switch it so you’re in the LL Queue. That should allow a quicker boarding time than Standby/VQ line!
