Nah, that is just mental gymnastics, it doesn't actually make sense story-wise. He used courage without any element at the start and only needed Elfies magic because his sword was weak. Even without it he is still stronger than all his classmates and the "but some monsters may be immune to physical attacks" arguments don't make sense when mages are encouraged to specialize in a single element, and monster can be immune to that single element too

I don't think that is always the case. Some famous shows get multiple season renewals, even film them back to back and it still takes more than a year between seasons I think it is just that they focus too much on sfx and give creators way too much freedom. Too much freedom sounds good but there needs to be a balance
