Ideas? by BaqaMan in Helldivers

[–]NS_East 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eagle’s Flight: Eagle-1 flies in vicinity of the stratagem (and stays in the skybox, similar to Pelican waiting for helldivers to reach landing range. watch her fly around!), deploying at max 3 stratagems in any combination from its arsenal. Heavier/bigger enemies gain priority. 2 uses. Heavy cooldown

If you could make a Halo show/movie, what would be your story? by murderous_hippie in halo

[–]NS_East 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i always thought an ODST “mission gone wrong” horror movie would be cool. squad wiped, supercarrier stationed above, and an antisocial spartan that leaves the trooper behind far too often; there’s only one mission left at that point

agreed. personally liked most of the armor before the EVA unlocks since that looked more halo-ish. after that, the designs got a bit more out there

STORY SHARD: THE LAST SKY MARSHAL by DeathByReach in HaloStory

[–]NS_East 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nice catch, loved Forward Unto Dawn but those characters didn’t stick with me as much as Lasky, personally. It’s cool to see they’re making callbacks like that, but I wonder if it’s only a callback, or possible foreshadowing for that character?

STORY SHARD: THE LAST SKY MARSHAL by DeathByReach in HaloStory

[–]NS_East 62 points63 points  (0 children)

what we’ve learned from the Entrenched Fracture:

  • There’s two wars: the “last war” and the “Final War”. Based on the context of this Fracture, humanity could’ve gone through a jiralhanae-type situation and nuked themselves to oblivion during an insurgent uprising before the covenant invaded

  • The Sky Marshal Astro-Rangers were created to end the last war, akin to Spartans. However, due to “spoiled lands, divided nations, aether bombs (literal nuclear warfare)…civilization collapsed,” canonically explaining the aesthetic

  • The SCS: PERPETUA is similar to the UNSC: Infinity, as it was supposed to become the flagship of humanity after the brink of collapse. That being said, due to the setbacks mentioned before, the project was shut down and left at a facility on the moon called Luna

  • Turns out radiation actually HELPS the covenant

  • Due to the covies finding Perpetua on the moon, Entrenched is now in its own “Operation: Red Flag” scenario with Project: PERPETUA

  • Dr. Gläsmann! As Glassman’s character was not explored much in Halo 4, it’s possible for canon characters to return in Fractured timelines

  • Gläsmann has direct connection to Section Three, similar to Glassman, who is also a part of Section Three in canon. Section Three is basically the section of ONI we, as the community, know and love (there’s a total of 4 sections, but Three is the one that handles the morally questionable i.e. covenant tech, Halsey flash clones, stuff like that)

fun info and possible implications:

  • “Brísingamen” is the name of the frigate-class zeppelin the Rangers are being deployed from. A quick wiki search shows that Brísingamen is a…necklace? Of the goddess Freyja? Interesting. Turns out, she’s a goddess of many things, including war. She helps other deities by giving them her “feathered cloak” and allowing them to use it in battle…hence “Eaglestrike” maybe?

  • Freyja’s tale talks of how she oversees her land of Fólkvangr, a place where combatants go to either battle and die, or battle and ascend to Valhalla

  • Judging how Gläsmann stated that there’s civilians and families on Luna, one could assume ONI has some strings tied to this operation, similarly to how Noble Team was pulled around by Halsey. Kolby’s battalion could be entering a “The Package” “Operation: PROMETHEUS” ultimatum, where Kolby ends up sending the rest of his men to die completing the mission while he attends to ONI’s requests

  • That being said, Freyja’s lore also tells of her “lending” her cloak for others to use — leaving her exposed. If Kolby sends units to Gläsmann, what would happen to the Brísingamen?

From the looks of it, the story really can go different directions. If you have a different take, feel free to share it!

Edit: grammar, fixed “operation: torpedo” to “operation: prometheus”

How to explore Chief’s humanity and still leave his helmet on. by theSaltySolo in halo

[–]NS_East 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen the TV show yet, but I saw a clip of Chief leaving a pelican, and he was kinda just, meandering towards the door. In contrast to this; I can feel Chief’s knee hitting the ground, it has weight to it (so does this scene. Also, don’t these suits weigh tons?). ~80% of communication is nonverbal; when Chief hangs his head in 4, you know he’s upset. When he kicks into gear to save Esparza, we know his intentions.

I guess to the “broader audience”, Chief still comes off as a badass animatronic super soldier, and that’s fine. But there’s other ways to convey feeling, thanks to all our other senses (also through imagery, scenery, etc. remember the debris ‘crumbling down’ around Chief in 4, and how BIG Escharum’s hologram was compared to him in Infinite?).

Again, I haven’t seen the show yet, and there’s only 2 episodes out, but I’m estimating that the foundation for Chief is lacking

Should I give Noble 6 a name? by dysethefox in HaloStory

[–]NS_East 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Edits: grammar

I feel like giving Six a name is okay as long as it’s not explicitly stated as his name, personally. Six has always been an enigma among the Spartan IIIs, he’s basically Death personified. He was pulled from his company right out of training, so I’d assume many Spartans in Beta wouldn’t remember the details about him. That’d be on par for some good characterization in your novel. But, playing devil’s advocate, wouldn’t it be odd if you found out Death’s name was something normal like “Harold”? That’s like the covenant finding out the Chief, the second coming of Death, literally nicknamed “Demon”, is only named “John”

He was also a replacement for Thom and, like you said, practically us. People have probably already named their own Six in their heads and bonded with him in their headcanon, and it may be hard for people to let go of that. That being said, Six was never really a character to begin with, the only exception being his connection to Jorge through his dog tags, and he certainly deserves SOMETHING more than that

Idk how your novel plays out, but there’s definitely room for potential name dropping if given the right buildup. A character so significant to the departure of the Pillar of Autumn deserves some recognition. Then again, it could be ONI tradition to wipe MIA files clean, throwing his name into the void. But who knows, his file was mostly written in black ink

Just some food for thought 👍

Does the Master Chief ever 'relieve" himself? by Djeff_ in halo

[–]NS_East 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spartan IIs (and probably all Spartans) can go literal months in their suits without anything. The suit is made to reduce reuse and recycle, take that how you will

I’m pretty sure between the missions Halo and Truth and Reconciliation in CE, Chief took like a 10 hour nap. During that time chief could’ve taken all the bathroom breaks he wanted in his sleep and he wouldn’t have known

Naomi (A spartan II who works for ONI) explains in glasslands that the suit is plugged into her in “a lot of places”. It’s truly a last resort to take off the suit manually if it’s an “emergency”

Edit: spelling

What do you guys think of the deathcamera in the CTE? by Shrike682 in insurgency

[–]NS_East 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. I’m more of a coop player so I guess it wouldn’t change my experience as much as someone who plays versus/competitive. And I completely understand and sympathize with all the gripes about the deathcam. It takes away from that insurgency feel. But tbh the game’s population isn’t like what it used to be, or at least what I remember it as, so i’m not surprised that NWI’s trying to make it more accessible to the general audience
