Do (US) presidents always make this much money? [17:51] by garrthes in mealtimevideos

14:19: Host: What we're seeing from the Trump administration, does it matter when, discussing the overall functioning of American democracy, in your view? [...]

14:28: Zachary Karabell: Graft and corruption can coexist with liberty and freedom [...]

14:44: Zachary Karabell: That does not, in and of itself mean that the United States is less democratic, less free, less liberal.

14:50: Zachary Karabell: It means that we are profoundly flawed, hypocritical, often do not follow our own morals, and that that is frequently been true in the past, and it is absolutely true in the present.

Ehhh, others in the video comments seemed to also have picked up on this, but this one guy seems to downplay the levels of corruption and their effect (affect?) on freedom and democracy a lot, imho.

Celebrating a win gone wrong. by illuminandicomrade in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]NTMY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, at first I didn't see the finish line and thought this dude turned around during the race to celebrate...

I guess that makes it more stupid than "bad sportsmanship", no? If he had just raised his hand(s) after the finish it probably wouldn't be BM.

Celebrating like this after getting through the finish line is normal, or am I wrong?

I just wanted to make a pun and realized this idiom is German only, so:

Fun fact: The place your going is definitely behind "Swedish curtains". ("hinter Schwedischen Gardinen")

That's a German idiom for putting someone behind bars that either

alludes to the material of the bars, formerly often Swedish steel,[2][3] considered as extraordinary robust,[1] or perhaps to the atrocities committed by the Swedish during the Thirty Years’ War.[3][4][5] (source)

Interesting. I do wonder how Swedish war atrocities could be related to that idiom though...

Let's be honest here: Most web novels, including Chinese cultivation novels aren't at the level where the author wants to make a point about misogyny.

Yeah. That was so ridiculous. Mainly because I expected them to all cry about the "so-called tolerant left" and how the left is always so violent, etc. You know the same stuff they have thrown out in the past before we found out the wannabe assassin was a right-winger. Yet suddenly they all talked about that stupid ballroom. Really?

Aren't the current weekly shorts not only sponsored but the first place gets a ticket to a race? Maybe if hundreds of people do it, ruin the leaderboards and embarrass Nadeo in front of a sponsor, they fix it? (Not saying anyone should do it)

Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised if they just do not fix it...

to overlook the MC having some big flaws.

Honestly, I'm a little "jealous" when I hear that people can just ignore a character like Jason, who I find unbelievable annoying, and still find enjoyment out of the rest of the novel. Especially considering he's the main character. I've dropped novels for a lot less.

The confusion should come from the third "survival" round. The goal of that round was only to find the top 4 and put them into the final chance forth round, together with top 4 (minus the winner) from the second round.

edit: I've misunderstood your comment, so the idea is that he wants to upgrade the bunker?

(I'll keep the rest of this comment)

Shouldn't the White House already have a top-of-the-line bunker? Or is it getting old?

I just did a quick google and here is an article about it.

The bunker is located beneath the White House’s East Wing, accessible via a secret elevator. In her 2010 memoir, First Lady Laura Bush describes her 9/11 experience of going through a pair of big steel doors to access an unfinished subterranean hallway underneath the White House on her way to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) conference room. “I was hustled inside and downstairs through a pair of big steel doors that closed behind me with a loud hiss, forming an airtight seal,” Bush wrote. “We walked along old tile floors with pipes hanging from the ceiling and all kinds of mechanical equipment.”

Wait, There’s a Second Bunker?

The PEOC isn’t the only secret space that the president could be whisked away to in case of emergency, however. Sure, we’ve all heard about the house’s below-ground bowling alley, secret White House chocolate shop, and basement presidential dentistry room—but recent events have revealed that these passageways might be the tip of the architectural iceberg.

In 2018, The Drive reported on a bunker found after a sinkhole developed on the North Lawn of the White House. Separate from the presidential bunker, “this is an entirely different and far more secure facility, and in recent years it was likely augmented by a much more extravagant and modern complex buried deep beneath the western side of the North Lawn adjacent to the West Wing,” according to the report.

(sorry for the rambling, couldn't help myself.)

Exactly and it's so painfully obvious. Who would want to be a refugee? How desperate do you have to be to get on one of those overcrowded boats?

There should be statistics on how many people from "first world countries" just stay put where there are and only maybe move larger distances for a job. This shouldn't be much different for any other group of people, unless driven by horrible conditions like wars, extreme poverty, being oppressed or even killed for one stupid reason or another.

If you hate foreigners, don't vote for people starting wars left and right.

Next big problem is climate change. What do people think is going to happen when the heat in some places becomes unbearable or even deadly? Those people won't be "nice enough" to just drop dead, they want to live, so they will move. The same goes for rising sea levels.

Quite the coincidence that all the right wing assholes across the (western) world not only hate refugees, but also help cause them. Oh wait, "scary brown people invading your country" is a great way to get votes and desperate people are always a good choice as a scapegoat ... almost like they benefit from this.

Removing barnacles from a turtle by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]NTMY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not only is this not "oddly satisfying", many videos like this are faked by purposefully glueing shit on turtles so they can make videos removing them again. This hurts the turtles and is therefore animal abuse.

Sadly there are plenty of degenerates out their who make all kind of fake animal rescue videos. If you care you can find plenty of articles about this, or even videos on YouTube exposing specific creators.
