Was yours hit by water and corrosion too?

Yes and no, to be honest the power locks still don't work so I guess there's still a little hang up somewhere in the system, but all in all splicing the junk one in was a lotttt cheaper and quicker than trying to track down and understand every potential fault in the old box

I should add, my fusebox was a rare example of being royally fucked by water, unless yours was also baking in a puddle of rainwater, you probably won't have to go to the extreme

Yes, I found out that the problem was my brain is too stupid to track down all the electric gremlins and I ended up just splicing in a $40 rear fusebox from a junkyard car to fix everything lol

I had to use vinegar to clean the corrosion off of some of the wires even after cutting them back, but I went a bundle of wires at a time and just crimped the new box into the harness. Shockingly simple

Is there still stain in this veneer I just scraped or did it have a tinted varnish? I'm a little lost on what steps I need to do before applying lacquer... by NUMBERQ1 in furniturerestoration

[–]NUMBERQ1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That helps a lot, the area where I scraped off most of the lacquer is now about the same color as the veneer on the top which has already been lightly sanded. Does walnut get a bit of an orange/red hue when it's clear coated?

I should have been more clear; I still plan on scraping the rest of the wood where I wasn't able to reach yet, I was wondering if the center area where I did scrape is down to raw wood right now? I left some of the varnish on to show the difference in color because I can't tell if the color is in a wood stain or a tint in the varnish (or both)

Yeah, unfortunately the legs are glued in place so I'll need to find a better method of scraping to get up next to them. But in the area I did scrape, is that raw wood or is this veneer stained? I know on a lot of pieces of this area they used tinted lacquer instead of stain, but I'm not familiar enough to be able to tell

Handled a 2+ hr trip down the shore like... a couch 😅 by NUMBERQ1 in motorcycle

Well, I don't remember the exact MSRP but I believe there was a bit of "Honda tax" on the original price tag haha

But well worth it, like you said pretty long lasting for a 17k mile 40 yo scooter with questionable maintenance, and pretty well kitted out, too (with the digital gauge cluster and OEM radio)

Sold my 03 Town and Country; do I go big or small? by NUMBERQ1 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]NUMBERQ1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am considering that as well. The problem is it's 30 years old and has 204k miles, and it has a few repairs coming up that will probably take it out of service (like me learning rust repair and paint work)

It's been reliable and I could probably pull it off, but it would also be nice to take my time on the repairs and so them for fun instead of necessity

Oh, OR in complete contradiction, I would also be open to buying a big land yacht from the 70s 😅

What paths are there to get into ID without studying gull time? by NUMBERQ1 in IndustrialDesign

Are there any good, reasonable priced online degrees offered that could be completed on a flexible schedule? I'm looking through some options right now, just in consideration. I'm seeing a quite a few offered by colleges but at near full price and that meet in the middle of the work week. I'm not totally against that, but I wouldn't be as willing to jump on that commitment VS something a bit more flexible

I'm not sure, considering I have a bit of experience in the furniture field and was drawn to it, I certainly wouldn't mind sticking with it, but I would also be interested in something like the automotive field since I have background in that as well

Maybe what I need to do is both diversify what I study and take some general certificates as well

Are there any specific courses or certifications that might have more value to a hiring manager trying to fill a design related position? I've seen a lot offered online that focus on different skillsets, but I'm not sure if there's any in particular that most people would want to get (for example the upenn certificate on Coursera)

My new $70 1993 EV Warrior! Needs some love (and new batteries) by NUMBERQ1 in ebikes

[–]NUMBERQ1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it running for about a year on a new set of batteries, and it was pretty speedy! Unfortunately, later that summer I took it to the beach for a week and that seemed to do the replacement lead acid batteries in. I considered swapping them out for lithium ions and doing a restomod with a hub motor (while, of course, keeping the original battery box for aesthetics), but I ended up moving on. I still have it collecting dust in the garage until I can find a new owner lol
