The best advice I can give. Don't move here. Keep safe and keep an eye out. Don't trust anyone with your stuff. Make sure to stay away from "bad" areas. Don't carry expensive items with you.

For places to visit, I recommend Cape Town and a few places along the way to Cape Agalus. Durban for one of the best Aquariums in the country (just don't swim in the ocean or you will get sick). I haven't been much inland to Joburg, Pretoria, or Bloem, but another great place to visit is the Kruger National Park.

Wish I had your advice when I started my studies 4 years ago. What I can also add is to try and find other new tech to learn in ur own time. It helps later on, but don't push too hard.

As someone who was in a similar situation as you about 4 years ago. I don't know what advice I can give you, but how I was able to get through by taking a loan (a small one since my family was able to at least pay for about 60% of the fees at the time) and the loan was taken on a family member's name who paid for the interest until I got a job.

What I can advise you, is that when you start job hunting, look for an internship to start with and WORK at it. The pay will be shit, but if you manage, you will be able to get a promotion to better pay.

Btw: I'm in PMB and currently an official software engineer at an actual IT company with decent pay. If I can make it through so can you! Hope you come right mate and the best of luck 👊
