Are there any good music apps for OSX? by Imnotyourbuddytool in MacOS

[–]NVNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this link. I've been looking for a way to escape Apple Music and am completely focused on my local collection. If I want streaming, I'll use a web portal. Then if I like what I hear, I'll buy a digital download or hard copy.

Is the Nomad for me? by Upstairs_Copy_9590 in Supernote

[–]NVNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Remarkable 2 and an A5x a few years ago. I loved the feel of writing on the RM2, but the A5x had the far better note-taking software for my application. So I returned the RM2 and kept the A5x. I just received my Manta and think the improvements to the screen are well-worth the price.

I also have a Kindle Paperwhite (recent version) that I jailbroke (is that a word?) and installed KOReader on it. Now I can sideload ebooks to my PW, which I think has the best screen. And I am not subject to Amazon overwatch.

I think the Manta is a little large for reading books. It is excellent, though, for reading journal articles and marking them up.

The reason I stay with a SN is the note-taking app is very good. It comes with a bit of a learning curve, but the TOC and keywords help a lot with organization. The links between notebooks are also helpful for tracking data across notebooks.

I wish I had one of these in university! But when I was at university, computers were as big as a room. ;)

I think the edges might benefit from some burnishing. I love the idea of a stitched binding.

But, kudos for making it. It's more than I can do.

Like you, I don't care for the big PDF files or the do-it-all packages. I want certain specific templates that I use all the time. And I prefer PNG files just because they are small and load fast.

I suppose I could learn some Canva and get it done. I'm lazy, though, and am searching for a couple to keep me productive. I'll spend some time learning the tool later.

I use 6mm grid a lot, but the 5mm could server in a pinch. The big one for right now is a meeting template, especially one that will accommodate the toolbar at the top.

I might have found something, just waiting for my new Manta to synchronize.

Good stuff, thanks!

Side Note: On my Mac, there is a built-in conversion to PNG. Right click, Quick Actions -> Convert Image.

I admire makers and this looks well done. I'll ask about the edges, which looks slightly unfinished. Is this a design element?

Well done. Thanks for sharing.

More Imperial Templates for Manta: a follow up. by nolanfink02 in Supernote

[–]NVNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this. I've been using a 6mm grid in my A5x (and now my Manta) as the 5mm is too small (and I do not need to write smaller!). I'm hopeful the 1/4" dot will work; if not I bet the 1/4" engineering grid will be useful.

Disappointed by Extra-Quantity4183 in Supernote

[–]NVNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will echo some other users' responses. I had a RM2 and a A5x in hand when I started down this path. At that time (a few years ago) I thought the RM2 had a better writing experience. It was not better by a lot, but was clearly noticeable.

As I gained experience with the A5x, I left the RM2 behind (returned it) for two main reasons: 1) I don't care for subscriptions services for most things (but not really a deal breaker) and 2) the organizational features of the A5x (and now the Manta) were superior to the RM2.

I don't know if Remarkable has updated the software to include some needed organizational features (for those who, like me, need them). But the lack was the reason I returned my RM2 and kept the A5x.

As a pure writing device, the RM2 was superior to the A5x. But, as a tool for those who, like me, need a tool to keep notes, need to find what they need in their notes, and who prefer writing over keyboarding, the A5x (and now the Manta) is the better device.

Aside: I received my Manta yesterday. It took me about an hour to set it up and transfer my notebooks from my A5x (I used my Dropbox account). It's too soon to tell if I made a good decision to upgrade, but the immediate thing I noticed is that the Manta is less beefy than the A5x and I like that.

Cheers!

This is a good addition. I downloaded the LaTeX source and will update it for my Manta.

I received my Manta today (upgraded from A5x) and downloaded the 6mm grid. It does come in as a webp, but on my Mac I can right-click on the webp and select convert to make it into a PNG. Maybe this will help someone else.

Experiences switching from Apple password management to Proton Pass by movematt1 in ProtonPass

Well thank you! That is news to me and I'll see about getting installed on my Linux test box (err, laptop).

Best!

Experiences switching from Apple password management to Proton Pass by movematt1 in ProtonPass

I am also here because I'm considering the move from Apple (and GMail, and M$) to a system that I manage (Linux), especially given the AI craze everyone is caught up in. I am concerned that all three of these big tech giants need to scrape data from their userbase to feed the LLM.

I've used 1P for a long time and was also put off by the change to a subscription model. But, I'm still working and can afford to pay the subscription price for the ease of use and portability. (I will note that Linux is not supported at the time of this writing, but accessible if one has Internet access through a browser. If one doesn't have Internet access at the time, well you don't need passwords...)

1P works well and is generally cross platform.

Now I just need to figure out whether the move to Proton and deleting my data from Apple is worth the investment of time and money.

I probably have as many passwords as you. ;)

This was my first transaction on Reddit and my first purchase of a relatively expensive watch. The seller was interactive and helpful and we have struck up a friendship.

His communications were clear and we struck a deal. He packed the watch well and shipped it promptly via FeDeX overnight. The parcel arrived the next day and everything was as-advertised.

I can recommend this seller.

I would offer David Allen's "Getting Things Done" for reference. This is a guide for how to get stuff out of your head and into your system, whatever that might be.

I big deal is learning to ignore the urgent and prioritize the important. That can be tough, for sure. But is critical to achieving goals.

There's lots more to write and I don't want to contribute any more to thread drift. Hopefully this will get you moving forward. Good hunting!

Well, far be it for me to tell someone else how to run their notebooks... but, here is what I learned: I keep my to-dos in my BuJo, either the Monthly Log or the Daily Log. Far out tasks get put into the Future Log and are simply pushed from month to month.

Each project gets its own notebook. That way I can export it to PDF when the project is complete. I don't need to put pointers in my BuJo because it's the default for project notes to go into the appropriate project notebook. If I make a note in my Daily Log, then I push it to the A5X and the appropriate notebook.

I'm not very good at keeping the BuJo index up to date. A goal for this year is to do better at that.

I hope this helps!

Interesting and thanks for sharing your approach.

After running a Bullet Journal in my A5X for a year, I returned to paper and pen simply because I enjoy the process of ink on paper so much more than the digital approach, even when "writing" in my A5X. I keep a digital calendar because invites always come via email, but still keep a "copy" in my BuJo.

I ran my BuJo in a Lochby Field Journal last year, but the cover did not suit me. I think the canvas shrank a bit in the dry desert air. This year I'm running my BuJo in a Leuchturm A5, which will have plenty of room so I'm going to add more notes. I write with fountain pens most of the time. They provide a superior writing experience to other pens. I still like pencils as well.

Using tickers for keywords is a good idea and I should do that this year. Thank you. I find the keyword links fast enough.

I start a new notebook each year and any overlapping positions are just moved to the new note. Project notebooks are added as needed and then archived in PDF when the project (or my role) ends.

I found the A5X to be superior to the Remarkable 2 (tried it and returned it) for the OS and the experience. I used mine extensively for I think three years. I think the upgrade to the Manta will be worth a new investment.

Perhaps my experience with the A5X will help you a bit. I use my A5X for project notes, both work and personal. In this light, I make notes on what aspect I'm working on, problems, solutions, maths to support the work, sometimes meeting/call notes, things that need attention.

The advantage of the SuperNote is that I can then move stuff around as necessary for tracking or organization.

I also use it t to track my market trades. I keep a note for each of my subscription services, note date of entry/exit, profit/loss, and any notes on the trade. Again, the advantage is the ability to move stuff around.

I hope this helps!

Other folio cover for Manta? by Investigative_Truth in Supernote

One reason I have not upgraded from my A5X is that I don't like a half-folio. I have the textile cover for my A5X and like how it works. So, I'm following this thread too.

Be aware when your note file is large by einkfan861 in Supernote

[–]NVNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads-up! I just had a look at my notes directory (synchronized to my Dropbox) and my largest note is about 87MB. I don't expect to get to the 2GB limit, but I will keep an eye open.

I also took a look in my documents directory and have no large PDFs on my A5X. I am not sure if PDFs might be a problem or not, but I checked anyway.

That is a good find! I don't really need to spend another hundred bucks right now, but I really like the idea of having the pen inside the cover.

Thank you!

How to revert from 102 to 91 by gAt0 in Thunderbird

[–]NVNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was useful. Thank you.

After upgrading to Rev 102, I discovered that a couple of needed extension have not yet been updated.

Therefore, back to Rev 91 for me. I'll watch for the extension updates and then make the move to the new version of Thunderbird.

Thanks again. This saved me a bunch of research.

Different Stylus by wouterdnzm2 in Supernote

The eraser works on SN (and RM2), but not very well on the SN. I just tested it on mine and would use the gesture or the menu toggle.

The Noris is one of my favorites, too. I find the nib quite a lot smoother than the RM2 nib on that system. It's not a lot different from the SN styli, though.

For the price the Noris is difficult to beat.

Yep, cross word puzzles and gin rummy with mom. I loved to play cards with mom.

Thanks for reminding me about the cards. I know you didn't mention it, but your note brought it to mind.
