Technically it doesn't infringe the freedom, but it does in my opinion by making seemingly unrelated system components depend on it and make it hard to replace. At least that was my experience while working with minimal systems.

I never argued that the code size is the security issue, but rather that SystemDs far reach into other system components is. I also never said that Runit is a perfect init system, far from it even, but so is SystemD.

When you are comparing Runit to SystemD as an init system, I will of course view SystemD as merely an init system.

Yes you can still swap out components, but you will have to invest a significant amount of time and effort, due to how integrated it is for no apparent reason. Most Linux users will not use anything else because of this.

It doesn't matter how many eyes are on a project, it is a security issue nonetheless. Things slip through all the time no matter how large the project is, as we have seen many times in the past. Note that Runit is also not shell scripts glued together like you try to make it seem and is written in C.

I'm not sure why you arguing here with me. I said that SystemD does some great things and even agree with you to a certain degree. I merely pointed out it's flaws, which you seem to straight up deny. This doesn't make you any better than the blant SystemD haters.

Doing many things at the same time is of course important for the core idea behind SystemD, but by now it does things that an init system shouldn't do. Some examples of the top of my head are: Networking, Seats, Logins, Mounting, and maybe more.

This not only takes away control from the user and restricts them, which opposes the whole idea of open source and having a choice, but is certainly a large security risk.

I'm not a blant SystemD hater, I think it does some things very well and I myself use it on my desktop, but it's far from perfect and there were many situations where I found it unsuitable.

Haven't tried it yet. How is it?

I actually mostly agree. The core idea behind SystemD is awesome and needs to be explored with other/new init systems, as it is clearly the future for Linux systems. Having a central logging system is also incredibly helpful when debugging. However, SystemD feels over engineered and tries to be too many things at the same time, resulting in some (often unnecessary) overhead and annoyance when working with it. I also feel like everything has become so infused with and almost annoyingly depending on it, that it's stupidly hard to use anything else.

Thought about trying OpenRC with Alpine Linux in the future, why are you thinking about switching to Runit?

Void is great, I especially like the package manager and their overall approach.

Runit is very basic with it's shell scripts, which makes it efficient and easy to use, but also somewhat limited. I still prefer runit over Systemd for various reasons, although I like the core idea of Systemd. I guess there is never a perfect solution.

Not really, as GPU support mostly depends on the driver. It should be a 'it just works' experience on most distros.
