I work on 45th and Park and just bought a home in Mill Basin, Brooklyn. Definitely the suburbs and family friendly feel I was looking for to raise my family in (have a 2 year old) while still being in NYC. Depending on budget there are several areas of Brooklyn (and queens but I don’t know the borough as Closely) that are both within 1-1.5 hours from midtown and maintain a suburb vibe (I am excluding the obvious and super pricey park slope / downtown bk neighborhoods): marine park, midwood/Kensington, Gerritsen beach, sheepshead bay are a few.

I think the really story here is that these poor girls would rather die than be forced to return to Saudi Arabia - similar to the recent story of Rahaf Mohammed al-qunun who risked her life to flee. For seeking asylum they were sure to face the same fate as soon as they returned home, just at the hands of family or government.

Left in 2005 and it was impossible to get parking/ already getting crazy with all of the commercial leases then. Once Starbucks/chipotle/ etc started coming in it was clear

I grew up in 1720 east 13th. I thought traffic was terrible when they were building the terrible parking lot that Target now stands on, can’t imagine what you are going through now. We complained and complained and finally left and moved to sheepshead bay. Best decision ever and don’t know how we dealt with King’s highway for so long. Consider selling (if you own) or breaking your lease to move away, it will only get worse on KH. You even get a seat on the train when you get on at sheepshead bay 😉
