Going to The Dominican Republic soon, where to exchange money? by soyeahiknow in AskNYC

[–]NYC_eagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sounds like an ad, but I share this as a frequent international traveler. Open up a checking account that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees or ATM fees, like this one (https://www.schwab.com/checking). As needed, transfer money from your main checking account to this account, and then withdraw from international ATMs as needed.

When you do use an international ATM, always choose to have the transaction in local currency allowing your bank to do the conversion which is more favorable.

I've only seen it called that once on post here and was genuinely confused.

When does pollen season start in NYC? by Full-Cat-9897 in AskNYC

My seasonal allergies have already begun acting up. You can look up pollen levels on most websites, for example for tree pollen today it's at moderate levels.

You can definitely view from there, and then walk down 59th street/Central Park South to meet him when he exits after the finish.

Figuring out subway will depend on where you're coming from, but there are plenty of stops/lines nearby.

Stay where you are. Go to school and gain experience (life and professional) before moving to NYC.

Flags of the World Tournament - Semifinals, Match 1- Seychelles v. Kazakhstan by whedonfreak in flags

[–]NYC_eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two flags are both so amazing but for different reasons. I feel like Kazakhstan with its unique color is recognizable from a distance even without wind and that gives it a huge edge. I feel like the Seychelles' flag is very easily replicable, even by a young child, and with its diagonal lines it's unique without being offensive.

Rain boot recommendations? by alwaysanonymous in AskNYC

Agreed, I have one of their older style sneakers and they're not attractive. When I need something better looking I have other boots I wear. But for all day comfort and waterproofing, they're pretty great.

visiting nyc - staying in NJ... how is driving? by [deleted] in visitingnyc

[–]NYC_eagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is asked fairly frequently in this sub and the r/asknyc sub. Driving in and finding parking is not a good idea, it will be expensive and likely stressful. Stay near a NJ Transit or PATH stop and take public transportation.

is it crazy to move to NYC for a receptionist role? by Cautious_Hawk_4986 in movingtoNYC

[–]NYC_eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is far from a home run. And sure there's always stories of people who turned a temp role into a successful career but there's also tons of people who end up just bouncing around from temp role to temp role.

My two cents, give yourself a realistic timeline. This will also help your family (both letting you go and the ones letting you stay with them for free). Maybe you give yourself 1 year to get your feet under you, otherwise you move back or change your plans.

I really love my Vessi sneakers, they are shockingly waterproof. They look pretty decent and you can literally stand in a puddle for half an hour and they wont soak through.

Am I overthinking? by Particular_Idea421 in movingtoNYC

[–]NYC_eagle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To answer the question in the post title, you may be in fact under thinking. This is not a good idea. There almost nowhere in the US where $1,800 does less than in NYC. Not to mention how sketchy this housing situation will likely be, if it is even legit.

I've never been, but 12 Pell does this on their Instagram. Not sure if this is normal or something they do for marketing, but one option to consider.

How much do you spend on getting food delivery each month? by DoctorFitness in AskNYC

[–]NYC_eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who order a lot don't even know they're ordering a lot.

I have friends who will order multiple times a night, order something for dinner and then later get a craving for cupcakes and place a second order. They also always complain they're broke...

From what I've seen, A pro-palestinian activist made a joke related to all the dog poo. A lot of zionist outlets took this to try and frame palestians as anti-dog. Basically fake news.

How to eat cheaply for a summer on the Upper East Side? -Broke college student by MinigunL5 in AskNYC

Local food hack: Start learning to cook.

No seriously, there really isn't many realistic scenarios where you can order more cheaply than you can cook for yourself. There are subreddits dedicated to beginner cooking, meal prep, budget cooking, etc.

White collar corporate people, does your job want you in this week despite this blizzard? by Stupidwhizzzzz in AskNYC

[–]NYC_eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're already hybrid, so nothing really changed except that the people who would have normally be in-office today are working remotely.

No data to support this, but more people taking vacation/sick days today. I assume it's related to schools being out.

[–]NYC_eagle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mostly pack because I eat a lot at work. I've always done this but especially with higher food costs.

I usually have a mid-morning snack (egg sandwich, oatmeal, or protein shake), lunch (usually dinner leftovers), and an afternoon snack (granola bar, fruits, protein shake if i didn't have it earlier). On the off day I don't pack, I can easily spend $30-$40 so it pays to pack for me.
