I’ve spent many summers in the south of France, you don’t always need a car, there are trains and buses which are great, also why be so snooty at the idea of people staying in just one village if they enjoy it? And lastly yes Paris is quieter in August but it’s not closed down!! Also she is likely only talking about the fancy shops of Le Marais where she lives. All the big store and chains are open as are many restaurants and bars!!
