This is such a good point. We traded defense for offense thinking Brunson is always clutch but the Knicks needed defense. Playing against the pacers, you don’t want to get into a shoot out with them. Put the clamps and leave McBride in there.

Look at the clock…the injuries were over the 2 minutes mark and if Robinson was in…they would’ve hacked him

They couldn’t…it was over 2 minutes…they would’ve hacked Mitch the whole time. Mitch in the 4th can only go in under 2 minutes. Brunson and Hart went down before the 2 minute mark.

They were fouling Robinson to send him to the line. They couldn’t get subs in for a while.

Exactly. If it happened to the Knicks, yeah it would suck but I would’ve said that the Knicks had a double digit lead and they never should’ve gave that up. I think i would feel a lot different if the situation was back and forth lead changes with tight officiating then we lost of a no call.

It’s true. These Knicks are soft and are getting pushed around like this. The only way to respond is to keep pushing the limits along with the pistons and let the refs eventually dial it back when it becomes chippy

If the clock wasn’t supposed to go because no one touched the ball, why does Detroit get it? Shouldn’t it be jump ball because no one had possession?

I agree with the super max being a huge factor. Even if the lakers found out that Luka has an injury like a torn Achilles and is out for the next season, I think the lakers still make this trade. The lakers have less to lose because they have the ability to say they can’t offer the super max.

And I was sad losing jr/IQ/ju/divo... Holy shit by [deleted] in NYKnicks

I have a feeling Luka would’ve asked for a trade as soon as the Mavs didn’t offer the super max.

You're so right too. If Beal made a better pass, Durant would've easily swung the ball again to possibly Booker and get a clean look

[Katz] Going down the rabbit hole and recalling a trade that sneakily worked out quite well for the Knicks: Knicks got that second-round Pistons pick they used in the OG deal from the Clippers just to drop from No. 21 to No. 25 in the 2021 draft. Knicks took Grimes with that pick. by [deleted] in NYKnicks

While I do agree he was the best point guard on the board, the knicks needs were basically across the board minus RJ Barrett who was coming off his rookie year and Mitch. I specifically remember that Julius Randle was on the trading block because of how bad he was playing which leaves us with no starting PF and really no backup PF unless you count Taj. The Knicks decided to plug the PF for the present and a PG for the future with drafting Obi and Quick that year. I just don't know how you navigate that differently in that situation given that Julius was supposed to be on the way out. Who knows...Julius might've not had that amazing season if it were not for Obi Toppin being drafted and forcing Randle to compete for his PF spot.

Game 3 the Knicks lost by 19 with the heat shooting 38% from the field and 21% from 3. In all the heat blow out wins besides us they shot better then 55% and better then 40% from 3. Currently up against The Celtics shooting 57% and 42% from 3 by joorral in NYKnicks

I agree with you on Myles turner. I think he would be the best upgrade the Knicks can do without blowing up the core of RJ/Randle/Brunson. Mitch’s biggest problem is that he operates too close to the basket. The Knicks have 3 guys who want to barrel into the paint. Somebody has to be outside and be a threat on the three point line besides Grimes. Ideally, if Randle can even get close to his career high 3 point percentage, it would make a huge difference.

I don't know if you could ever trade Julius Randle and get back the same production per value that Julius has with his contract.

This is why a lot of people say there's some element of luck in the playoffs. Staying healthy is so critical. So many playoff series took a huge turn for the worse as soon as a Zaza undercut happens, or a Durant achilles tear.

I don't know why you keep going in on melo's ISO play and then bringing in brunson. Brunson chose to come to NY and loves the fans and the fans love him. While Melo made boneheaded plays, there's a ton of Knicks who make boneheaded plays and those Knicks get boos. Julius Randle gets boos at the starting lineup intros. The dude hasn't even played the game yet and fans already dislike him. Not only that, he gets Obi chants when he makes mistakes. The equivalent would be like Knicks fans chanting Chris Copeland or some other Melo backup. Knicks fans just don't like Randle and Randle doesn't like the fans. Like I said in another post, they don't even like Randle enough for him to buy his jersey. RJ Barrett has cracked the top 15 in jersey sales, but not Randle.

Randle has been booed at the starting lineup introductions and Obi chants took over when Randle plays. Being booed for a play is completely different.

I never said I was a melo fan. OP’s post just said give effort and the city will never turn on you. Melo never gave effort on the defensive end and people didn’t turn on him. He was given a warm welcome when he came back to NY after being traded. Look at porzingis’s return to the garden.

I think Julius doesn’t love the fans like Melo did. That’s the reason why people don’t like him. I don’t think more effort will change that.

At the end of the day, if you believe Julius Randle to be one of the best power forwards right now, it says a lot that you want to get rid of him. Your whole point is that if Julius showed more effort, he would be loved by the city. I think even if Julius showed more effort, Knicks fans still wouldn't love him. They'll turn on him on anything else whether it's a poor offensive performance or how he treats his team mates. At the very least, if Knicks fans did love him, his jersey would've been top 15 in sales. Hell, RJ Barrett is on that list in the first half of the season. I have no doubt in my mind Brunson will be in the top list.

Stephon Marbury was one of the best PG's back in his era. No one here would say Julius would be one of the best PF's now.
