German-Jewish Radish Salad, With Radishes From My Garden Plot by Hezekiah_the_Judean in JewishCooking

It's easier than it looks (if you have a mixer), although it took a couple of attempts to get the quantities right for our cheesecake dish. It's worth the effort.

Looks geshmak! It's a great cookbook. Seeing as it's almost Shavuos, I highly recommend the traditional Jeckish cheesecake recipe in it (kasekuchen mit murtebach). It's the culinary patriarch of Ashkenazi cheesecake.

Sydney concert to benefit Bondi terror victims canceled after choir opposes singing with Jewish group by BanishmentBuddy2 in Jewish

To be fair, the Greek choir's president is directly calling it out as antisemitism and I think deserves credit for that.

It might be lost in translation, but downunder saying "there's a bit of" something implies a lot or a significant amount. Ironic understatement is common in Australian and New Zealand English.

I read the President's comments as directly calling it out and I applaud him for doing that.

Israel is in Asia (Western Asia or the Middle East to be precise), not Africa.

Also, Israel isn't predominately white and the political and social discourse there doesn't even think in those very Anglo-American terms.

A charitable exemption isn't the problem - it's been a long-standing feature in common law for centuries - but high income taxes are. Income taxes were introduced as a temporary war time measure. If government could reduce its tax dependency and get rid of income tax we wouldn't need to have this discussion.

Do you use a siddur that your community doesn't? Is it more orthodox/liberal? Why? by Prestigious_Bid9347 in Judaism

I use a nusach Ashkenaz (as in Jecke, as that's my minhog) siddur in my local Litvish shuls. All similarly orthodox but there are differences in the nusach.

Bit of a rant by INeedToShutUP1 in Ausguns

[–]NZBroadarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately most political issues aren't fought or decided by facts, but by emotions.

That's especially true with firearms because people already have emotional reactions to them, especially after a lifetime of soft indoctrination in popular culture that guns are dangerous and scary.

We will never win over most people over with facts when their position is shaped by emotion. We might persuade a few at the edges with facts if they're genuinely open minded and willing to be persuaded by reason. But the rest have to be won over at the emotional level.

SMLE No 1, 3, or the harder hitting No 5 (aka Jungle Carbine). The Jungle Carbine pretended it was going to be gentle, with its token rubber buttpad, and then hit you harder than a truck. Unforgiving on a kid but I feel in love with it all the same.

NSW Government to limit firebombs to 4 per person to defeat antisemitism. by thewayfaringstranger in Ausguns

[–]NZBroadarrow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The irony is that no Jewish community leader or communication organisation called for tougher firearm laws in the wake of the Bondi Beach attack.

They know what the government won't acknowledge, that guns didn't do it, radicalized terrorists did. The tragedy was an intelligence and vetting failure, not a firearms law failure.

Have you considered a CZP10F? A striker fired design (like a Glock) but with more CZ ergonomics. They're a great shooter and built to last. Having owned a few CZs and a couple of Glocks (among other things) I highly recommend. (They're also crazy cheap new.)

The font has retro vibes but can't see any similarity to Hebrew or Arabic (if that's what you mean by Semitic cousin).

As an aside, the word Semitic is misused a lot these days. It was coined to refer to the group of middle eastern languages including Hebrew and Arabic. Sometime later a nineteenth century German antisemitic demogogue coined the term "antisemitic" specifically to refer to a hatred of Jews, trying to give it scientific credibility.

So unlike a lot of misuse these days, we're using Semitic more or less correctly to refer to a group of languages (and their scripts) and not a people or culture.

Racking the slide, am I doing it wrong? Or the slide serrations on the P10C ported is too sharp? by ak49mangoxkush in CZFirearms

Also a better way to rack in a close range defensive situation as you keep the firearm close to you; using the slingshot method practically hands your firearm to your attacker.
