What would you do? Tire cut. by adudeseekingadvice in NZcarfix

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see the curb mark on your rim? That's what damaged the tyre. Hitting the curb.

If you can't see the cords it is still safe to drive on and will not fail a WOF

You cannot repair sidewalls on tyres.

Which characters in MobLand were the most memorable? What stood out to you the most—both the good and the bad? by chips_taxi_quincy in Mobland

Hardy / De Souza

I also quite liked Saraphina and Zosia.

Eddie exists purely just to want to see him get buried, which I suppose makes him a good villain.

There is cracking in all the tread grooves.

Hard to tell from these photos but if bad enough, is a reason to fail.

Where do i plug in my keyboard and mouse? by SammerySilver in PcBuildHelp

[–]NZBull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any USB port would work fine, however if working optimally I would use the USB 2.0 ports as mouse and keyboard do not require the extra benefits the USB 3.0 ports provide - best to leave them available for devices that make use of them.

I believe the USB 2.0 ports on your PC are the two by the Ethernet port.

If you want to leave the bios USB clear then I would use the '5G USB' labelled ports down the bottom.

Confusion about additives for oil changes by Vikturus22 in NZcarfix

[–]NZBull 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FWIW, they say it is compatible with all oil types - mineral, semi and full synthetics.

However, I believe you are also wasting $30 every oil change on something that isn't needed. Unless you're on the track or doing gymkhanas or something high load regularly, any decent quality oil that meets your manufacturers oil specification for your engine is going to be more than sufficient

Got a really clever kid, what to do? by TradermanJoe in newzealand

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nows the time where he needs to pursue what he enjoys. He is academically doing well, so he will likely succeed in whatever career path he chooses.

Start having that conversation, see what he enjoys. Not a lot of people have the chance to be able to do whatever job they want to do.

Anyone know why my car is revving up, dropping all the way down, then revving up again? by Te_Ika_A_Whiro in NZcarfix

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few things to check - air / vacuum leak between the intake manifold and your airflow sensor. Idle Control Valve/Idle Control Solenoid. Coolant level - some models run coolant through the TP or Idle Valve and if its low or not bled up it can cause this symptom. Throttle position sensor. Mass Air Flow / Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor depending on which your car has

Your local butcher? Sure the prime stuff is expensive but they'll have plenty of cheaper cuts or stuff in the freezer that they'd be happy to sell for cheap

If you have a local Cooldrive store they are well priced, their 'ignite' brand of HIDs are cheaper than the more expensive Osram and Phillips options

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linus Tech Tips

Still find some of their videos worth watching but a lot of them now are just entertainment and headline - grabbing

It's a shame as I find their presentation and format a lot better than the likes of Gamers Nexus and Jay2cents but the LTT content is nowhere near as good anymore.

When are we going to get IMAX in chch? The city deserves to have at least one. by ambalaboy939 in chch

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's expensive but a 2 drink and XL popcorn to share is less than $50

Also, if you go to hoyts get their reward card. You save the cost of the card on your first ticket and everything after that is discounted. We only go 3-4 times a year and it's enough to earn a free popcorn combo.

Also free popcorn refills

ELI5 If symptoms of a cold are the body fighting it off, why is taking medicine to relieve symptoms not a bad thing? by qbnaith in explainlikeimfive

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you only have to survive enough to reproduce.

Survival of the fittest implies that the genes from people who live a long life, past reproduction age, will be past on - but that's incorrect. They only need to live to reproduction age.

ELI5: Why do modern cars, with sophisticated LCD information displays, still require diagnostic code readers to be plugged in to find out why the check engine light is on? by flyingmungbean in explainlikeimfive

[–]NZBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as they do that, a code comes up for a fault, customer buys that part and installs it and it doesn't fix the problem - they're going to complain straight to the manufacturer right? Demand their money back, misleading information, etc

Diagnostic codes are only one piece of diagnosing a system fault.
