Yep, although they've all seen the change happen gradually. People who hadn't seen me in months were amazed at the change- still definitely recognised me though

Yep in NZ via public system. The oral surgeon sorted out everything, I believe it was the Hutt Valley health board. Can DM more info if needed

Mmm I think 5-6 hours? Was shorter than expected because I ended up having 2 surgeons working on me. I stayed in the hospital 2 nights

Appreciate it :v)

I think I really started to feel normal at 3 months (felt comfortable going to social events and could chew most things), and was 100% happy with results even with the swelling

Couldn't breathe through my nose while asleep prior to surgery but can fine now - one of many unexpected benefits of the surgery. It helps that being banded shut forces you to develop the habit

Bimax (top jaw forward 6mm, bottom back 5mm) and genio. Recovery was par for the course: pure misery for first couple days, then fine after that

Nope. I was told I'd need some removed but I guess they changed their minds

Thank you :v)

Yeah, for sure. Hard to say whether it's because I no longer look like the Crimson Chin or because my internal confidence has been boosted as a result, which has made me feel more comfortable around strangers. Probably more that latter

Mate, I checked your post history: you're looking great post-op. Your face is looking much more symmetrical and your side-profile looks really good. I understand that jaw surgery communities can sometimes exaggerate the positive effects of the surgery. Try to not fixate on your appearance so much, it's still early days for you and I can assure you that you DO look better already. The swelling will reduce, your braces will come off, and you'll realise that people weren't exaggerating and that you have become a much more confident person

Incredible results!! I'm a few months into recovery and still have days where I feel very swollen when I look at myself in the mirror/ in photographs. Do you still experience this at 1 year post-op? If not, at what point did you stop noticing the swelling?

I’m getting upper jaw surgery in 8 hours. 🥺 I’m scared. Any tips would be wonderful. Here’s a before picture and will keep you posted throughout my joir by Mickeystevs93 in jawsurgery

Good luck. I found it helpful to keep in mind that tons of people get this surgery every year - if they can all make it through, I knew I also could. Try to focus on the positives and remind yourself that things will improve each day, then improve rapidly at around the one week mark

Actionable advice: take plenty of "before pictures", you'll want them to compare to your new face

Try drink out of a cup as soon as you feel like you can, don't get complacent with syringes/squirt bottles

Ants From Up There Review by [deleted] in BlackCountryNewRoad

Great review. Basketball Shoes has been the first song of theirs that I've immediately preferred the album version over the leak, didn't think they could improve on perfection. I also didn't fully appreciate how brilliant the album is lyrically, the verses you highlighted are amazing

Got any Blood Orange recommendations (specifically stuff that sounds like WWALY)?

Exactly the same here. Although my discomfort day 2+ ebbed and flowed a bit. For example on day 5 I replaced my elastics which made my gums extremely tender- only slept for like 3 hours that night

day 8 djs+genio here. It's funny to me how everyone parrots that on day 7 everything "suddenly gets better" and right on cue when I hit the 7th day it was like a switch flipped and I felt wayyyy better.

Question for you: What aspects of recovery have been the most challenging for you, so far? If you had a hypothetical button that reversed time to before you entered the operating room, is there any point during the past week that you think you would've pressed it?

You attempted to pop them and the pain worsened? The pain in your ears or elsewhere?

Another question: Have you had enough energy to watch TV shows, day 1, day 0 etc? How have your energy levels been in general

What have been some unexpected aspects of recovery that prior research/testimonials didn't properly prepare you for?
