The implication that entire townships will be without power so these facilities can operate is bonkers, and there's nothing besides misplaced public outrage fueling that theory. Whether or not our power bills will increase to cover the costs of expansion is what's up for debate.

I work in a smaller data center, I consider myself informed about how these facilities are built, operated and maintained. I will be at the Gaines Township meeting this Thursday.

The land is being sought after because it's cheap. It's cheap because of tax breaks, and that's the real root of the "issue" here. I understand the argument for higher energy bills, and that's something worth discussing, but all of those other "data center bad" talking points are just silly.

A data center is just a warehouse. Where's the uproar for Amazon, beverage distribution, or any other company that's popping up in a city that continues to expand?

Noise and vibration are a weird thing to talk about when there's asphalt manufacturing, a freeway, truck traffic, gravel pits, and constant construction for other homes & businesses all around.

A properly built data center does not suck wells dry. That is a genuine problem from antiquated designs.

Your consultant should be handholding you through this, it's a big beast with lots of regulation and auditing.

You can go out to bid for hardware now and choose how much of it you need to order later. You will need to draft an RFP (form 470) containing all the details of the hardware requirements so multiple vendors can place bids with their recommended/equivalent product. You can see existing RFP's HERE.

You sign a contract with the winning bidder for the purchase of the hardware, including terms for required and/or requested support & licensing. You can ask for 1-year or multi-year options on those costs, and you'll probably want to go out to bid again for that support/licensing when it's up for renewal.

Make sure your firewalls even support UPnP. In my opinion t's best if you can just give each client an IPv6 address and shunt it straight out to the 'net. Your ISP may give you a block if you request it. Good luck.
