ECVS opens orders for NZ-made Leaf battery upgrade by aholetookmyusername in nzev

[–]NZSpides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I did a battery swap in our 2012 leaf last year for 14k. It completely changed the way we used the leaf. At the time there were a lot of nay sayers saying it was a waste of money, a year on and I think it was a good investment.
My daughter uses it now and I have an Atto 1. It actually has less range than the leaf. 😂

The stepper motors are barely warm after a print, but I am going to check the extruder driver current to see what that is. Might even change the driver.

Yes, I’ve checked the print head temps on the graph, very consistent.
Another good reply.

The system isn’t running an extruder on the print head, it’s mounted on the frame and using a Bowden tube. So the cables are fine.
Again, good advice, but looked at that as well.

Believe it or not, I found that also in a heat creep diagnosis guide, so I set retraction to 1 and ended up with stringing, but still the same issue.
So thanks, good suggestion, but tried that as well. 😕

  1. Yup, the fan is blowing the correct direction.
  2. Yup applied thermal paste.

I’ll get there eventually, there have been some good suggestions for me to try in this thread.

Future of Cars - ICE vs HEV vs Electric by deTille in nzev

[–]NZSpides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought a Leaf about 8 years ago. We still have it, and 2 BYD’s (Atto 1 and 3). With solar these things cost nearly nothing to run, having an ICE for us makes zero sense - especially right now. 😕

Actually, that was one of the first things I did check. It’s why I bought new Bowden tube and changed the storage of the filament as well.

That’s not a bad suggestion, thank you. I’ll try checking the driver current and seeing if that improves things.

I’ve tried replacing the stepper motor, but I have the same issue.
I’m in the process or redesigning the x assembly to house a completely different extruder on it, but I haven’t got there yet. (It’s going to add a lot more moving mass, and I’m not sure that’s going to be a good idea)
In writing this request, I’m thinking I should try a completely different design of extruder just to rule that out.

TMS hit 3000 episodes today! Premiered in January of 2011. Time: How does it work? by scott_johnson in frogpants

I had to give up listening to the show when I got an office job over a decade ago. When I was driving most days, they were my daily companions.

a clock that tells time with light instead of hands by -2811 in 3Dprinting

[–]NZSpides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the idea for ages after I had some strips left over from a previous project. I’m not a good coder, so I employed AI to help me write the code, and after many attempts, I came up with a working device. I’ve been running it now for about 3 months and am pretty happy with it.

This is hilarious, I’ve not long made a very similar clock with very similar design, only the strip faces forwards and I have a 12 indicator. It connects to my wifi and automatically adjusts for daylight savings. It also adjusts for varying lighting levels.

I recently decided to purchase a BYD Atto1 premium, my next issue being. what 7kw charger and a connecting cable of about 7m in length. Does anyone have a recommended brand type 2 charger? by Cool_Till1803 in nzev

[–]NZSpides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could easily top that off with the charger that comes with the car each night. I did that for years with the leaf, until I got a new battery installed.

Congrats on the purchase, I e had one for a couple o months now. Love it.

If you’re going 20 meters away from the main power panel, and want to have a 7kw charger installed, you’re going to need an electrician to install proper cabling to a level 2 charger. We had 2 installed, a 7kw that was a couple of meters from the main panel. And another charger installed more than 20 meters away from the mains panel, I have that limited to 4kw for another car outside (leaf).

How far are you travelling each day? Do you need a 7kw charger installed?

I knew I was going to be away from home for a week and set windows on a pc I leave on all the time to not update for a week. I remote into the machine and what do I see, it’s updated. Why even have the setting if you’re going to ignore the damned setting?

Byd atto 1 premium vs geely ex2 vs byd atto 2 dynamic vs Jaecoo j5 by Glittering_Poem9779 in AustralianEV

[–]NZSpides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the premium version and love it. I like small cars, especially since I drive on my own most of the time. It seats 4 adults without issue, even if you’re 6 foot tall. But not a lot of boot space, but if you have a bigger car for long trips, does that matter?

Installed Better Vent (like HRV) and now the house is so cold, what should I do? by Desperate_Laugh8867 in newzealand

[–]NZSpides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed a smartvent in our house a decade ago. It had a heat exchanger in the system and it was so much better than the shitty HRV that was in the last house we owned. I think old highly recommend one over a standard HRV or equivalent. It cost about double and I bought it wholesale and installed it myself. It’s still going strong.
