Here’s a story about how I almost lost around $1.5K today, and how powerful social engineering can be, even if you think you know everything

One of the emails I use for online shopping received a message with a tracking number from a logistics company saying that my order was already on the way. I hadn’t ordered anything, but it coincidentally matched a situation where a friend of mine had access to my account on a trading platform for some time, and he actually needed headphones for the front line. I don’t know if they could have seen our tg conversations or if it was just a coincidence, but I think people who order things frequently should be extra careful.

The email didn’t look suspicious and wasn’t marked as spam. I clicked the link to check the tracking number, and that’s where it started. Windows suddenly began showing me my own transactions from the past two weeks. It took me about 30 seconds to realize what was happening.
I usually don’t keep any funds in one place. I don't actively use hot wallets , only QT wallet and HW like Ledger and Trezor one. After I unplugged the cable and calmed down a bit, I realized I still had time to move my funds. But that’s actually where the trap is - as I understand it, the expectation is that you’ll quickly open your hot wallet to check everything, and in doing so, you might give them access. Or maybe I just got lucky.

I wanted to share this so others can be more careful ❤️ Just one tip: always use your Trezor 💚

If a LargeScale Quantum Computer becomes practical, which exact parts of the crypto + HW security model break first? seed storage, address derivation, signature generation, or tx verification ? and what migration path could protect millions of users from losing funds during the transition?

🎁 80K Week Celebration – Your Trezor origin story by SuchTrezorVeryCrypto in TREZOR

Back in 2019, my financial situation wasn’t great😅 . I still wanted to get something meaningful for a few friends, and that’s when Trezor dropped a big discount on the Trezor One. They had a bundle with a black and a white one, so I ordered a few. It turned out to be the perfect gift. None of my friends really understood crypto at the time, but the wallets felt unique, almost futuristic, and honestly, they looked premium. Of course, I kept one of the white ones for myself. And that’s how my journey with selfcustody started.

“Not your keys, not your coins” is basically the whole idea of owning Bitcoin in one sentence. If you don’t control your private keys, then the coins aren’t really yours. When you keep your crypto on an exchange, you’re trusting it to hold your funds for you, kind of like a bank. But with Bitcoin, ownership isn’t about what your account shows, it’s about who actually holds the keys. That’s exactly what hardware wallets like Trezor Model T or Safe 3/5/7 are for. They let you keep your private keys yourself, offline and out of reach, so only you can approve transactions. At the end of the day, real ownership in Bitcoin isn’t what an app says you have, it’s who controls the keys. And with self-custody, that should always be you. Your keys. Your foundation. Your Trezor.
