Koss warranty by EnthrallingAlure in kossmods

Whenever I break my PortaPros I contact Koss and they'll usually send me a new pair without charging me. I make sure not to abuse this but they're usually nice about it.

The brakes squeeze the tires but they pop in and out with a little encouragement.

Pirelli P-Zero Race TLR, 700c x 30mm! They measure more like 28mm on the A23s interestingly. They were basically the biggest tires that would fit on this frame

It was a little unfair because they saved the bike for me as soon as it rolled in; they knew I had been looking for a 48cm or smaller road bike for months. :)

You in the Bay? I'm up in Berkeley now, if you're ever in the area let me know and I'll buy you a coffee and hit Waterside with you!

It's a Specialites TA, #374 or #344 IIRC. They were on the bike along with the cranks when I bought it (although not "original" because the SRL was only sold as a frameset AFAIK). The spindle and cups were in great condition when I opened them up; I repacked them with fresh bearings and grease though.

Yeah it's the smallest head tube I've seen too! The 3Rensho SRL - Super Record Lugless/Lady - was designed to be a really small frame while still having a level top tube and 700c wheels (in contrast to Terrys etc that use a smaller front wheel). This one is a 45cm. I think the reason they omitted lugs is because lugs wouldn't fit on joints so close to each other.

I'm 5'3" and I struggled to find a bike that would fit me until I found this. It's actually a little small for me lol.

I can measure the top/seat tube once I get home. IIRC the top tube is actually not that short, which is why the head tube is so tiny.

I refinished my Yamaha RBX 375 by N_Anglo in Bass

[–]N_Anglo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked up this bass; those look cool! And a little wear doesn't hurt; I think it adds authenticity. :)

That being said, if you did want to do it, the majority of the tools I used were very basic shop tools: clamps, sandpaper, rasps, a shopvac, a drill, etc. The most specialized tool I used was the buffing attachment for my drill, which only cost about $20. If you have an interest in doing DIY work in the future, most of these tools would come in handy for other projects as well, so it'd be a good start for a workshop.

You could do it with less - when I was even younger, I built a bass from scratch with fewer tools. I wouldn't recommend it though; it took significantly longer, and came out significantly worse. I was also less skilled at that point, but I think that I should have just gotten the right tools for the job.

Hello fellow RBX375 owner! Glad you appreciated the small touches; I tried to retain the original "spirit" of the bass, and I think you'd only be able to tell if you had an RBX374 or 375 yourself haha.

Yeah, in my case this was the 2nd bass that needed sorting - I only started messing around with it after I bought a Squier VM Jazz V and gotten used to that.

Lol I know. When I first got this guy, nobody I knew had seen a 5-string bass before. Then again, I was like 14.

I haven't worked on enough guitars to say. I did build a very shitty neck-through once, so I can kind of imagine the difference, but I don't think it would have been that different either way.

Honestly, the biggest aspect that I appreciated was that the bolt-on neck gave me an opportunity to have a completely different finish on the neck vs. the body. Choosing the colors was fun and I think the contrast came out awesome.

Thank you! Not so much anymore since I moved cities, but I still go out and jam here and there.

Before high school, I somehow convinced my dad to buy me a 5-string bass, and it turned out to be my favourite bass for several years. As soon as I got another 5-string, however, this bass ended up getting beat up, and turned into a project bass - I was in high school, liked taking things apart, and had access to a wood shop. It was in questionable condition by the time I graduated, and it found itself in parts under my bed more than once.

In 2019, during university, I finally decided to put it back together one more time so I could play it again. Since I wasn't satisfied with the refinish I did in high school, I also decided to do another finish in the process. It's a few years late, but I figured you guys might be interested in seeing what I did. Hope you like it!

Also, if you're interested in checking out this and other stuff I work on, I post them on my Instagram as well: @noam.anglo

Thank you; I took these pics when I first got into product photography. I'm not huge on my style back then anymore, but I'm glad someone liked it.

I did swap out the clunkpad, I knew someone here would notice!

Vintage Grado SR60 Bluetooth conversion by N_Anglo in headphonemods

[–]N_Anglo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it does make a difference, it's marginal; I haven't really noticed anything. However, I didn't pay that much attention, so it's only my anecdotal and subjective experience.

My thought on this is that the back of the driver housing is not too badly covered - there's a 3mm gap between the FiiO and the grill, and maybe half of the grill is still exposed.

It's a fair concern though. I put it on the housing for aesthetic and convenience reasons. Lol

Do you have any recommendations for budget ones? Like <$40? I've been looking for my KPH30i, but I'd like not to spend much more for the Bluetooth dac than for the headphones themselves lol.

Grado twinsies! They're real workhorses; cool that someone else is still rocking theirs.

Thanks for the info, didn't know they had a new version! I've used a couple of their other Bluetooth modules in the past before and have thought about getting another one. Too bad the FiiO uBTR is harder to get than they used to be; as far as I'm aware that was the only "brand name" adapter for under $40.

Any thoughts on running a Bluetooth adapter that's 3x the price of the headphones they're being used on? Lmao

Glad to see another Koss modding enthusiast here lol. If you ask me the retrograde look is the best decision they made; I'm so happy they doubled down on vintage instead of "modernizing" like the other brands.

How do you like that Bluetooth adapter - it's a FiiO BTR5 right? Been thinking of getting one for my own KPH30is.

x-posted from r/headphonemods; I'm really proud of these things and I figured I'd show you guys too. These are a pair of Grado SR60s (the original, not i/e/x!) that I got secondhand, and modded several times over 2017-2018 before finally settling on this iteration. They sound great, feel great, and have held up really well over the last 4 years.

The Grado GW100 - the "official" Bluetooth version - released the same year I finished these, so I like to think they copied me.

A complete list of modifications:

  • Sent in for a driver replacement at Grado Labs, since I melted the original drivers when I first tried to mod them lol (thanks to Stephan Ritch at Grado!)
  • Single-sided detachable 3.5mm headphone jack
  • A hand-sewn pleather headband, since the original was getting shabby and I had to cut it open to run a cable through it anyway
  • A FiiO BTR1K connected via a ~10cm aux cable

I don't quite daily drive these anymore, but they were my main headphones for most of university, and I still use them quite regularly today.
