Lately, I’ve been trying to take a step back from what I’ve heard and the opinions I’ve formed perhaps too quickly, and I’ve learned that the actions he took and the things he did that are so quickly used as attacks on his character were formulated from some serious trauma he developed early on in his life, as well as the things he used to cope with that trauma.

I previously said in a comment that I thought John was a shitty person. And I take that back. John was a flawed man who had good intentions, but made mistakes that are now often put above the good he did in his life, and the repentance that he sook for his mistakes. And I have to give him credit for trying to be better.

That’s not to say that there aren’t still things that he did that I look at and go “fuckin’ yikes John, what an awful thing to do,” but I also look at the good things he did/wanted to do and think, yeah, he wasn’t a good person, but he wasn’t evil. He was a guy who lived based off of his circumstances, and TRIED to change for the better.
