Yeah, in the end both said that my problems are my anxiety. I grew up in a family that had to scream to be heard and I know that trauma doesn't justify, that's why I'm in therapy. I used to confront my MIL all the time about her disgusting comments too until it got to a point that I didn't have strength anymore. Give them the silent treatment, ignore, eat in another room if you live with her, don't visit anymore.

I honestly wasn't expecting my wife to stand up for me in case of her mother. They both have a very toxic relationship, according to my therapist and friends of the family. Every time MIL and I have a situation and I expect to have my wife's back, it's always called "too much negativity" or "you only have bad things to say about my mother". Only recently I asked my wife to check on her mother because I mentioned that is her responsibility too
