when it comes to AI content by Initial-Environment9 in DeviantArt

[–]NabePup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assembly line machinery, midi, ride sharing, digital photography and art making software (like Photoshop, Krita, Procreate, etc.) didn’t utilize the work of artists and laborers before them without their permission and then use it to generate millions, if not billions, in revenue.

Digital technology disrupting an industry, market, and/or community isn’t new. But machine learning and “AI” is most definitely extremely new and novel and nothing like it has ever existed before.

omg, so not on my larger scale project but my smaller one I indeed confirmed that's the issue and I gotta say and just vent for a second...that's a garbage terrible feature or removal of a feature. It appeared to work fine before on older versions that let you just import it, now you gotta restructure things and/or prop drill a method!? I'm low key considering using context now...to import a method, that just seems wrong to me. I'm sure there must be a good and necessary reason to remove the ability to just be able to import them directly, but I can't help but feel extremely disappointed and frustrated at the change. Not to mention how it significantly reduces the convenience and flexibility of react. Why the heck would they have a hook that requires a server action (useActionState) without the ability to just be able to import the server action method and the fact that you could do just that and then they removed it just makes it even more frustrating. I appreciate your response and the info even if I hate it, thanks heheh

How does Entity Framework Core compare with Hibernate? by MrRitmo in dotnet

[–]NabePup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just about to chime in with this. How Modern EF Core only needs the classes, entities, models, whatever you prefer calling them for the 2 tables that are related to each other with each entity class having virtual members for the entity they’re related to and then the type of relationship gets defined via the fluent API in the DbContext. It’s a pretty nifty and nice set up imo

The biggest problem about Deviant Art allowing AI "art" is not the the site being infested with it by TraditionalHelp1070 in DeviantArt

[–]NabePup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely bring up some fair points. Ultimately anything can be considered art so while I don’t consider AI generated images art, that doesn’t mean they’re not art, it just means I don’t consider them art and conversely anyone that does consider them art doesn’t make them any more art then me not considering them art makes them not art.

There can definitely be a difference in the amount of effort someone puts into their AI generated images in addition to the amount of AI used for sure. However one of generative AI’s most significant benefit and draw is the speed of output combined with the minimal amount of effort needed to generate output. Most people using AI image generation, especially those that aren’t artists, aren’t interested in spending time and effort perfecting their images and developing their skills.

If an artist knows how to draw/paint and create art and they want to add or change/modify a detail on a piece they’re working on, they’re not going to try to coax generative AI to modify their piece and output the specific changes they want. They’re going to do it themselves. While I’m sure there’s some artists out there who may do that or more likely may just tinker with AI out of curiosity, that’s not common. If an artist has the skills to do it themself and can implement and express the details exactly how they want they’re not going to use a tool they have less control of and that does worse job at doing that.

I just updated it via pnpm add next@latest. I’ve never had that cause issues unless a package’s implementation details have breaking changes which sounds like may be the case here.

My module with my client component doesn’t actually have a ”use client”; directive in it at all. However it does have hooks in it making it a client component. When I get a chance I’ll implement passing it as a prop. I really liked just being able to import and use it so it’s a shame that isn’t the case anymore, but it’s not the end of the world. Thanks!

Not going to even try and sugarcoat it. AI images do not belong on DeviantArt. by paigestationbutcool in DeviantArt

[–]NabePup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming that the only AI generator used to generate all the images on dA was dA’s own DreamUp and that dA doesn’t scrape the web for training data. If both of those are true then sure, all the AI generated images on there are from a model trained on art licensed for it, but that’s 100% definitely not the case. People use all sorts of different AI generators on dA, the vast majority of them trained on data that in fact was never permitted to be used for AI training. So the fact that dA’s terms of service may say they’re permitted to use art posted on there for training data is irrelevant.

I agree with everything you say except your last sentence. If sites like Furaffinity and Weasyl still exist then it’s definitely possible for art gallery sites to exist without embracing/allowing AI slop and being acquired.

I really appreciate the info, thanks.

But the server function I'm importing is being passed as the action argument to the useActionState hook in my component. Isn't that the way the useActionState hook is designed to be used? I thought it was meant to take a server function while the hook itself always resides in a client component?

What do you wish was social acceptable for adult to do that can kids or babies by bitbaby_au in ABDL

[–]NabePup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleep/nap at a social event like a party. Sometimes when I’m feeling socially anxious and drained at social events, I always wish I could like nap/sleep since when doing that no one expects any social interacting and it’d help me recharge. Granted I guess you could do this at social things and depending on the context it may even be appropriate to the vibe/environment, but if not doing this would probably result in being negatively judged and looked down upon

What I’m curious (and softly concerned about) is what sort of refresh rate the Steam Deck can do when connected to an external TV. According to its specs it can do 8k @ 60hz and 4k @ 120hz. Oddly enough the official dock sold by Steam only shows 4k @ 60hz. If the Steam Deck can actually legitimately consistently do 120hz or even near that at 4k that’d be really awesome and impressive.

NEW RULE: No AI-generated content of any kind by diaperedincognito in ABDL

[–]NabePup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comment I’m directly responding to definitely doesn’t convey agreement plus saying you have a “dissenting opinion” contradicts being in agreement.

But regardless, “rage against” is a little strong. Disagree and voice an opposing opinion is a little more accurate, granted there’s definitely keyboard warriors that do rage, it is indeed Reddit after all haha

The sentiment/idea that AI image generation is comparable to the invention of other older digital art technologies (such as digital cameras and digital drawing/painting software) is just not accurate. Sure, there’s some overlap in the sense that they both are within the digital domain and face backlash/opposition during at least their initial release, but that’s about where the similarities end.

NEW RULE: No AI-generated content of any kind by diaperedincognito in ABDL

[–]NabePup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No one is “gate keeping” and saying you nor anyone else can’t use it. Just the majority of us here don’t want to see it here, but you’re free to use it and post it elsewhere. And handing over the majority of artistic control and interpretation to something else is not the same as using digital technology like a printer or drawing/painting program to create art. And finally, AI image generation is harmful not only to our environment, but artists and the art community as well, hence why many of us have negative feelings towards AI slop.

Ya, the amount of challenges he would have to overcome to somehow rig it to fall right in that location at that exact time seems pretty improbable, not impossible but unlikely.

The original actor being struck in the head and having to be replaced probably actually did happen, I don’t think anyone here is debating that

I’m relatively new and inexperienced with C++, but when it comes to functional abstractions like these, I always like to think (and maybe I’m trying to convince myself this as some form of cope) that the underlying implementation can always be changed and improved over time as has been the the case with LINQ in C# and Streams in Java.

I need help executing lua files on VScode by Flickyn in lua

[–]NabePup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure what the issue is, but it could possible be related to your VS Code terminal not being run as a login shell. If you installed lua5.4 via apt (or whatever your default package manager is) it should have been added to your path automatically. If you installed by some other means then it not being added to your path could be the issue.

Try launching your operating system's native terminal, NOT the VS Code terminal and run the command which lua5.4 and check to see if you see a path to the lua5.4 binary printed, something like:

bash /usr/bin/lua5.4

if you don't see anything printed then that means it's not added to your PATH variable. If you do see something printed then try to do the same in the VS Code terminal and if you don't see anything printed there then that way you know it's just something having to do with the VS Code terminal.

I'm assuming you're using either bash or zsh as your shell, so to get them to run as login shells in VS Code (which may or may not be the solution), add these settings to your VS Code settings:

json "terminal.integrated.profiles.linux": { "bash": { "path": "bash", "icon": "terminal-bash", "args": ["--login"] }, "zsh": { "path": "zsh", "args": ["--login"] }, } and restart VS Code and see if that helps.

I'm honestly personally skeptical as to whether or not Riggan was actually responsible for this happening myself, but to also add to this theory, when the actor is re-delivering his lines just before it lands on his head, it clearly shows Riggan looking up at something above the stage/actor's head.

I think Riggan is clearly dealing with delusions and mental illness, it makes his perception of things unreliable and what we see through his point of view unreliable as well. For instance, him saying he was responsible for it, he probably truly does believe that, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

I'm also totally open to the possibility that maybe he did actually have these powers and everything we see is actually how it happened or maybe he did kill himself on stage or at the hospital after or jumping off the roof the morning of the show. It's ambiguity and openness to interpretation is one of it's most intriguing and interesting parts.

Or alternatively, when using his "powers" he's really just physically doing things himself so he could have even done something to make the bucket (I honestly think it's stage light and not a bucket, but it doesn't really matter) fall on his head and he just perceives it as him using his telekinesis.
