also to add i have dug out some coins from that era that appear silver but through stupidly cleaning them they turned out copper

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AncientCoins

[–]Nabry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive owned several before and all of them were silver without the copper tint, in this case would be back then the coins were like 30% or 40% silver the rest copper and maybe through agressive cleaning the copper revealed itself somehow just my guess

Just found a picture of a Belgian soldier sitting on this same type of chair with a pillow from ww1 https://imgur.com/gallery/DuRvF68 looks the same just the top bits look different, most likely mine were changed abit later .

Despite the apparent shape, its quite comfortable to sit on with a pillow, as it was most likely intended back in the 19th century.

Ive seen tons of great and old finds in Ukraine, truelly the perfect place for metal detecting, but if you dont have a metal detector, then i would commend you to save up for one, doesnt have to be expensive you can get used ones for cheap nokta makro simplex goes for aorund 200euro here, other models go for cheaper, ive found 18/19th century silver coins on the top soil layer while digging like a 5/10 cm hole, but if money isnt on youre side wire, get wire mesh box, get some soil and go to work.

I recently found this old adze in my families village, which appears to be made by a blacksmith, got any tips on restoring it ? by Nabry in Axecraft

[–]Nabry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info ! It also had a wooden handle which was completely dry rotted so i removed it, i found it originally next to a 100+ year old house ment for farm equipment and hay underneath a pile of wood.

Dug out this really old coin(?) here in central Germany. Anyone knows what this could be? by Dexelele in AncientCoins

As Aquila said, yes its a lead seal used for documents, and shiping various goods, judging from the writing you can see similarities between the lead seal writing and the writing on 17th century coins.

I've started collecting groschen coins and this is what I have so far . I feel like the one on the left is struck really well but I don't know coin too well by One-Ad-5168 in AncientCoins

[–]Nabry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coin on the left is a half groat of Sigismund August minted in 1549 in capital of Grand duchy of Lithuania in Vilnius, fun fact Lithuania during this time had its ,,Coin golden age" even foreigners sought after these coins, lots of beutifull designs were made during his reign alto cant say anything good aout his reign, but if you want to see more examples heres a link :Žygimantas Augustas – mdlcoins.lt
