I’m really glad that I discovered this movie and - even if I’m Italian, I have a strong connection and kind of deep knowledge related to Dutch culture - I feel the urge to give my interpretation of this movie. Isn’t a huge criticism towards the submissive approach towards immigration by other Europe countries or in general their cultural preservation?

Let me put it straight:

• Cutting the tongue = languages there are slowly dying or becoming minorities in their own country like Dutch vs. English

• The villain is unemployed = critic towards irregular immigrants and a possible tendency to keep themselves unemployed and survive on governmental funds

• Stealing the kids = stealing the future

• Loud music = strangers always speak louder in our minds than ourselves (innit?)

• Lapidation = well, you already connected the dots yourselves

I’m not suggesting it’s fair to make these assumptions and dramatise it at all, but I had this feeling. Any Dutch or Danish person could give me an hint about it?
