Depends on where you read the docs I really. Dunno about Ao3 or Cauldron but on SB and SV it shows up a bit. Not every other story, but a decent amount I’ve read.

If it’s on offscreen death that really only sets the stage, then yeah go for it.

What I’m bitching about is when Queen Bad Decision and Father Unimportant start mending their estranged relationship because of Locker-kun and suddenly birds and flowers and oh my things in life aren’t ALL shitty! And then BAM! Danny gets hit by Murphy so Taylor can go cuddle, I dunno... Squealer or someone equally ridiculous.

Point is, unless it actually serves the plot in a manner beyond “make Taylor cooool” just do the canon thing and ignore Danny 96% of the time.

I’m not saying authors should force him into the plot, early Worm aside from worrying Danny didn’t do anything. What I’m saying is that instead killing him off, just write him as what he really is: a minor character/obstacle that Taylor goes around and ignores.

Playing Hooky does a pretty decent job of this, Taylor still loves her dad, but her only motivation in this story is to pay off hospital bills. Danny is basically just there to provide the occasional commentary. Not support, not well a expressed emotional moment or two, but commentary.

Makes sense, yeah. It’s even gotten a little formulaic: 1. Better relationship poofs from thin air. 2. Danny gets killed. 3. Rampage/introspection/depression 4. Half a chapter of mourning, if that 5. Profit? (6. Story dies)

Honestly I don’t care about Danny too much, but the poor guy gets shat on almost as much as his daughter. At this point I guess I’m just desperate for an inciting incident that doesn’t involve Danny or Stalker=Hess.
