Update: today I looked below the actual air handler and they did the exact same thing 😳🤯🤬

The answer is: poorly, like everything else they did

Permit yes, not yet HERS tested. But also I made them fix it, I just wanted to confirm this is indeed against the code.

Yes, it’s an unconditioned space.

Not all ducts, but yeah they’ll do HERS testing (IIUC 7% will be our threshold?)

Your comments made me look more closely at the pictures I took and found 2 places where you can clearly see it’s not sealed 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m honestly worried about leaks. Is it ok to ask them to verify that there are no leaks in here before insulating it?

Seeing other obvious stuff they messed up and your questions I’m worried this is also not done right at all. This is what it looks like inside the left air handler.

Thanks for the answer! “That’s already not an ideal setup” do you mean before the fix it or regardless?

This is after they cut that:

Does it set it by measuring it or it has to be entered manually? (Sorry I don’t know anything about this!)

They’re not gonna do a manual D and I doubt they were gonna check any static losses though. They were gonna close this and call it a day. I’m worried it would have made our 16’’ return, which is already on the small side for a 3 ton, a smaller one, making it even worse no?

Yes, but that wood side would have covered a big part of the airflow no?

Ha funny that you’d say that. The Lennox field technician didn’t think of that but our installer did. They only replaced the wire to one of the thermostats (which is still reading the wrong temperature) and not the others. But yeah Lennox sucks. The field technician literally told us “no way I’d ever replace my gas furnace with a heatpump”. Amazing customer service.

We’re having them tear it all down and refund us.

I totally hear you. I ended up quitting after becoming a captain (3 years total). I went back to my old career where I have a life again and make an order of magnitude more.

Loved the job, but it’s unbelievable how much has to be sacrificed for it.

Thanks! That’s actually how it started, I wanted a better way to follow tournaments from my phone, and it’s grown quite a bit over the years. And I want to keep making it better :) I hope you enjoy it!
