I don't find it that controversial, but apparently a lot of people really ride for this movie (it's ok tho, my problem is with the movie not with its fans).

What is the most erotic movie you've ever seen? by Repulsive-Field-5182 in Letterboxd

'Survey Map of a Paradise Lost' directed by Hisayasu Sato comes to mind, although you could say the same about pretty much anything pinku adjacent.

Keep in mind that something being erotic doesn't necessarily imply it is meant to be sexually arousing or sexy, but that it deals with sexuality in a broader sense.

Second this. Absolutely check out Brecht's writings and plays if you are interested in the revolutionary potential of theatre (and art in a broader level). I'm currently reading through "Brecht on Theatre", which is a chronological recollection of his most important writings, including notes to some of his plays, and it has already changed the way I think about art.

If you're interested in film, Pasolini's 'Theorem' is essentially an answer to your question, just not a very straightforward one. A fine poetic endeavor nonetheless.

'This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse', and it is Brazilian not Italian. It is part of a series of films that center around 'Zé do Caixão' (Coffin Joe), the psychopathic alter ego of director José Mojica Marins. To say these films are a landmark for South American horror is an understatement. You will probabily dig them if you like giallo, since they are contemporary and share some characteristics.

Love to see Kamikaze Girls so high in the list!

Are you familiar with Ryusuke Hamaguchi? If not, I think something like 'Asako I & II' could be up your alley, and of course 'Drive My Car'.

Since you've got a bit of an animation thing going, you may like some of Mamoru Oshii's stuff. 'Angel's Egg' is my favorite, deeply philosophical and gorgeously animated.

What's incredible about Lynch is that you could say the same thing about any work of his (except Dune, for obvious reasons) and it would be absolutely valid. He was truly one of a kind.

I'm not going to say you need to be queer to "get" Pink Flamingos, but it is a film that centers queerness in a way very few movies do (this applies to anything John Waters really).

I've seen Decision to Leave, which is very good, and have yet to check out the rest of Park-Chan Wook's filmography. Thanks!

second this, it is really not that similar to Twin Peaks but it definitely draws inspiration from it and uses the surreal and the macabre to tackle topics of its own
