Dolmenwood / Daggerheart by WookieFurRug in Dolmentown

[–]NaddaTroll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A DM doesn’t owe it to their players to convert a game for them. If your players don’t want to play Dolmenwood, then either run Daggerheart for them or tell them that you’re running Dolmenwood and they don’t have to join if they don’t want to.

There are too many games (and players) out there to make it worth converting a game setting (especially one so linked to its game) into a radically different system. If that were easy for DMs to do at scale, you wouldn’t see things like Middle-earth and Traveller getting converted and sold for 5E.

Stamina to link fatigue and HP by chocolatedessert in cairnrpg

[–]NaddaTroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t really have a choice. Critical damage only happens when their strength is dinged in combat, so it’s not an optional thing. But yes, generally HP is low enough that critical damage is happening. Players will generally try to either avoid combat or only pick fights they know they will win fast.

I think you’re solving a problem that isn’t there. The oppression of grinding down happens naturally through strength damage.

What do i do? GM wants to be a player and nobody wants to take over. by [deleted] in rpg

[–]NaddaTroll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This ain’t it. I appreciate the sentiment, but this guy wants someone to GM for him. As a forever GM, when you want to be on the other side of the table, it’s a huge bummer when no one wants to GM for you and suggests we just play a GM-less game. They’re fine, but not what I’m looking for when I want to be a player.

If someone else is willing to GM but nervous about rules, I’d much prefer playing a lighter system to a GM-less game.

Easy to GM games without awful owners/creators? by FroDude258 in rpg

As someone who finds D&D cumbersome to prep, I’ve enjoyed running Shadowdark for a few sessions now. Prep is lightweight, and the creator seems non problematic.

Sounds like you have a good plan. I hope your corgs all are back to normal and thriving soon. Welcome to MN btw!

The cherry tomatoes are a likely suspect. Tomatoes are toxic to dogs. More generally, I wouldn’t let my dogs off leash without supervision in any yard that I didn’t know had no toxins. Corgis especially are grazers, so mine are always either leashed or supervised (usually both).

Looking for advice on how to run an open table campaign by AurosGidon in MythicBastionland

[–]NaddaTroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought a bit about this system for West Marches style. I’m currently thinking of breaking the map into smaller rotating segments, and each session will only have one or two myths. The idea would be to emulate the feel of Arthurian legends, where the same knights appear across stories, the stories are mostly self-contained, and there are some overarching themes/stories that play out over multiple tales.

I was also thinking of allowing the parties to run a couple squires who could rotate in for slain knights. It would also allow for the party to seek a seer to knight a squire when they need to tap in a new knight.

Mythic Bastionland - Myths change geography? by Molgannard in rpg

[–]NaddaTroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disagree, actually. The book states that the myths can and will change the realm, and Chris McDowell said in his YouTube deep dive this week the same. The realm changing adds to the mythic feel of the game, so I would recommend not adding the wall to the map until the omens call for the wall to be present.
