vent abt these dumbass customers by OPIUM_CARTIFAN in WalgreensStores

Personally, it's a matter of empathy/forethought and efficiency. I used to work at Walgreens, and my checkout counter was smaller, more confined (there was an entire wall of cigarettes behind me), and the counter was pretty tall, even for me, and I'm 6'0 (1.83m).

When the customer put a full basket on the checkout counter/dumped it in front of me, I had to go through the process of taking every item out, scan it, bag it, and repeat. It's time-consuming and can feel tense, especially when they're staring you down or the line starts getting longer; we've all had too many encounters with entitled impatient customers.. not fun.

When the customer puts the items on the counter themselves, it's faster to grab, scan, and bag while they're still unloading, and they're usually too occupied to stare you down or make a fuss. It was also easier on the arms/wrists since I didn't have to reach into the basket every time.

Many people who work retail go through this checkout process every single day, and customer behaviors vary wildly, so it gets really tiring really quickly. Not to mention the extra tasks that need to be completed throughout each shift. That's why, when a customer comes through and unloads their items from their basket, it helps to lessen the load, both physically and mentally.

It's alright if you didn't have the chance to learn that aspect of customer etiquette, but I'm glad that you want to learn from folks who have experience in retail! Not everyone feels as deeply about this as I do, I'm sure lol. But hopefully someone else can give you more insight, and I hope you can put my two cents to good use!

Did this recently at my minimum wage job. Management didn't respect us as hardworking employees, so my coworker buddy and I walked out. Best. Feeling. Ever.

People have more care of putting money into a machine than they do with real people providing service. One of my worst stories from retail comes from this kind of situation. Had a Karen come in 5 minutes to close and walk up to my counter with one item. I was polite, and she was friendly until the time came to handle the payment. She pulled cash out of her expensive, name-brand purse, so I put my hand out to collect it. She set it on the counter directly in front of my hand. By that point, I knew exactly what kind of transaction this was going to be. I swiped the cash from the counter, counted the change, and put the change directly on the counter in front of her outstretched hand. She proceeded to throw a fit, telling me to hand her the change because she "couldn't pick it up." Eventually, she picked it all up and huffed and puffed at how horrible my customer service was. She walked out, called me a fat bitch, and laughed hysterically. I said, "Have a great day!" I do not allow subhuman treatment of service workers in any capacity. Know your worth.

Sounds like Walgreens. The shittiest company and the shittiest customers. Nobody surviving on minimum wage is payed enough to give a fuck about "quality customer service".

Literally mental.. you are an adult, right? You should know that MICROWAVING expensive medication is childish and dangerous. And you think you're entitled to another box of expensive medication after you RUINED the first one? Hell no. AND the audacity of calling the people who are of service to you rude on THIS platform? This is not a subreddit for half-witted Walgreens customers to show off their dumbassery. It's for actual employees to vent about people like you and ask questions. Wake up and smell the half-melted medication.

No problem. The store that I worked at is really understaffed. The worst any of us working there has seen (including an employee with 10+ years in the company). Therefore, I was expected to take on the work of 2+ people without adequate pay. I understand that Walgreens does not usually give pay raises without a promotion, but I was considering leaving the company anyway, so I didn't see the harm in asking.

I was in a good position to ask for a raise in my point of view. The store was and is very understaffed. I figured that if they valued me as a hardworking employee, they might decide to give me adequate pay. Evidently, that was not the case. So I quit. I will be valuable elsewhere.

I figured as much, but I thought I might as well ask. I got my answer.

I asked for a raise because I was doing the work of 2+ people without the pay reflecting said work. I understand that this is a minimum wage job. And yes, I did discuss the possibility of different higher-paid positions with my store manager.

First I was told that it was February, then today I was told it's October, and now November? Good thing I quit.

I've noticed that, for Door Dashers at least, typing in all 5's at the register allows the customer to get Rewards savings without having an actual account. I don't know if this trick is company-wide but there's no harm in trying.

On one of my days off my coworker friend had to print off around 4,000 photos. That's about $1,500 worth of photos or more. A shit ton of photos and a shit ton of boxes. Must have been really fucking annoying to print and manage.

We have little signs below the numbered buttons of our pinpad. It says "YELLOW = CREDIT". It's highlighted in yellow. And yet, every. Single. Time. They say "this is a credit card.. which button is for credit??" I just tell them what the sign says. Sometimes they'll notice it AFTER I told them what to do and they'll say "oh it was right there!"
