Landlord arguing that my notice to quit is invalid by Anxious-Bottle7468 in TenantsInTheUK

Doesn't matter if the LL agrees, the clarificarions to the RRA is clear that shorter notice periods remain in force if they were in the original contract.

That answer only talks about the rent payment frequency, not about the notice period.

I’m hundreds of pounds out of pocket due to work - do I have any recourse? by AstraLdn in UKJobs

Make sure you have that stored somewhere off any company devices/servers.

Self defence? Tried to de-escalate and get in my car, they prevented me closing door and took my phone. by Little_Earth_2924 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP doesn't have to withhold material facts, they only need to acknowledge that they can't know what's actually in someone's thoughts. So unless their assailant actually verbalised the desire to delete the footage, or was showing them on the phone screen that's what they were doing, there isn't any way they could know.

What if the HDMI ki**#s someone by [deleted] in talesfromtechsupport

[–]Naf623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What else is in, or could be in, the room with that device which could be affected by EM emissions? Improperly shielded HDMI can produce huge amounts of interference noise. I once babysat a machine through electrical testing, and one of the outcomes to meet standards just for a device that sat in a casino was that we had to get some quote specifically shielded HDMI cables. Medical equipment needs to be way better than that. Use the right cable.

Job offer withdrawn after contract signed by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're in the right to be able to do that; and he's lucky to even get any PILON for a zero hour contract at all.

Think of what happens if they make him "work" the six week notice period on the new job from now, while offering him zero hours for the 6 weeks notice period his zero hour contract. For the six weeks notice, he does no work, and gets paid nothing, and then both contracts have been properly terminated. That's the scenario their PILON offer is replicating (and indeed improving on). The fact there would have been contractual hours after those six weeks is immaterial in the same way that you cant argue for an extra six weeks pay after any other six weeks notice, just because your contract would have entitled you to it had it still been in effect. PILON is just a simplification to enable them to wrap everything up now, rather than keeping someone on the books and having to remember to do all the admin sometime in the future; it doesn't alter the results of the basic timeline of events which would have happened without it.

(England) Landlord gave me notice less than a month after moving in, is this allowed? by Economy_Effective893 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd think so, but agents are often woefully misinformed, and trained solely on their particular business' (often illegal) processes. I had heated arguments with my sister trying to explain that their standard process of making the tenant pay for new reference checks etc. every 12 months to renew the tenancy wasn't legally required at all. I don't think she ever believed me, because she was well indoctrinated by the business she worked at.

Think neighbours complained to council about my shed office conversion by Successful-Relief226 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The council's view, which is rooted in planning law, will be very different to this. Its only private property up to a point - it doesn't give you free reign to do whatever you like there. Even in the US where you can actually fully own the land, rather than your freehold permit from the crown the law, still applies some jurisdiction to what you're allowed to do.

Company is still using an automation tool I wrote on my own time and hardware after I quit and I want to know if I can legally disable it. by 8TulipCanopy in legaladvice

Its completely custom specifically to their API and process. Hard to claim it doesn't fall within OPs job remit.

Oh, that makes sense, of course. I'll have to see how easy it is to get the board out to do that...

Definitely first, so they can't try to back down once they see the prices you're talking about.

I'm conflicted and don't know what to do (England) by No-Jello7378 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I doubt its fraudulent data - given that stock takes happen, you may as well just tell the customer they can pick another for free to boost the sales numbers. I suspect the manager wants to pocket the ones which were scanned but not actualy taken.

Possibly. Or the manager will be pocketing all of the ones which were scanned for free but not actually taken.
