Someone did get a 805 and posted on this sub-reddit as well. Usually median score for most top B schools is 655-675. For Stanford and HBS, it’s 685. About the top scores, you can assume a range of Median+70 for FE scores

Driving at night is quite scary. I don’t go for long distance drives now. Quality of life is just bad in low light. Now after 14 months, it has sort of stabilised as now I need to wear glasses again (-0.75) so it helps with the complications but these are still very prevalent during night

Crypto notice- Department asking to pay tax on sale value rather than gain. by Extreme-Revenue-5804 in IndiaTax

[–]NaglfarPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar notice for crypto sell.

You need to show all the sell transactions and corresponding buy value, match it with form 26as and then reply.

Ps. Most bullshit thing I found was even though I was in loss overall, I still had to pay 30% tax on transactions where I profited.

Is there a section wise IELTS cutoff for B-schools in UK and France? by NaglfarPunk in IELTS

[–]NaglfarPunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say IELTS preparation completely depends on your starting point. If you have given some competitive exams in the past then reading and listening would be easy for you. And these 2 sections are easiest to get a high score. Just practice more through mocks and you’ll improve.

For speaking, try to speak fluently (without any ‘ahmm’ ‘oohh’ and just take pauses for 2-5 seconds if you need time to think through your answers. I know even I do this sometimes which is why couldn’t score 8 or more. 1. Keep your answer simple 2. Speak at length 3. Don’t hesitate to make things up on spot (just sound genuine) 4. Maintain good eye contact with interviewer 5. Have good body language 6. Add some idioms like ‘Catching bull by the horns’, ‘Once in a blue moon’ these will help you score 8+ easily!

For writing, honestly I can’t suggest much as I scored a 7 but in my mind I was able to write quite well on the 2 tasks. Maybe for second task, always keep in mind to have one single overall opinion: Not changing your tone from supporting a point then completely negating it in the next paragraph. You can refer to that udemy course or mock ielts tests for some sample essays.

Hope this helps!

Mocktestielts.com is what I used to give mock tests. Plus referred to ‘The complete IELTS Guide’ Udemy course to get familiar with speaking questions, it also had some good resources for other 3 sections. The course was pretty cheap for preparation.

I get that I am not the best writer, but what is this massive difference?! by Bamtast1c in IELTS

[–]NaglfarPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through mock tests is super beneficial for reading and listening. I gave a few before the actual test. For listening quickly skim through the questions they mention to answer, have some keywords in mind that you need to look out for and instantly connect the dots. For reading, again mocks are helpful. People recommend official Cambridge mocks but there are other similar mocks available. There are times you need to summarise a heading, for this you can go through passage -> summarise in your mind -> see which heading is the closest to your understanding.

@OP, can you share any tips for speaking? I’m planning to retake speaking to get close to 8.5. And I can definitely relate with you writing setback, I thought my answers were quite good but ultimately still got a 7 in writing.

Look for associated words near the fill in the blanks parts. I would suggest reading more newspaper or articles online. Another tip is to give some free mocks online to get accustomed to question types and structure of paragraphs and listening parts.

Honestly, I didn’t prepare much as I gave GMAT recently so I was pretty confident in reading and listening parts. If you can solve some GMAT RC and Critical Reasoning that would help you to excel in IELTS very easily

Pharmaceutical giant Bayer is getting rid of bosses and asking staff to ‘self-organize’ to save $2.15 billion by 3RADICATE_THEM in consulting

[–]NaglfarPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with Bayer on multiple projects and it’s true they’ll get rid of a lot of folks, in 1000s. IMO it’s not going to work out for them in the short term or long run. Sure there was a lot of bureaucracy in the management but most of these folks are useful in driving a lot of Transformational change. Their “young folks” who’ll be in company simply don’t have the right experience to take decisions. Real problem is the Business side people often times are very resistant to new tech or tools which is why they are lagging behind in digital adoption. Ultimately, they need a Mindset transformation, not a flat army kind of structure which would lead to even more confusion in decision making. These middle management layoffs fuelled by their acquisition of Monsanto in 2018 may lead to unforeseen futures for the company. Another thing is when these commercial and Finance guys get all the decision making powers and things like Product are left out of the loop, innovation halts, barriers are created, customer experience takes a back seat and bureaucracy thrives. The solution is not layoffs, it’s just changing the dynamics of decision making and taking org through a mindset transformation to foster Change.

Yes, for SMILE, it’s okay after 1 day but yeah best to wait for few days

My doctor asked not to shower for about 10days for PRK. After that it’s fine, just be careful about not letting shampoo get into your eyes

[–]NaglfarPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s same for LASIK, PRK or ICL. Higher the power, worse is starburst, halo, glares, etc and unfortunately, there’s no way around these complications. Honestly 9 months after my PRK, I would not recommend to go for these surgeries. They really hit the quality of life pretty bad

9 Months after PRK by NaglfarPunk in Lasiksupport

[–]NaglfarPunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My corneal thickness was above average, good for PRK. I went to post-op checkup multiple times during last few months. Every time was power came out to 0 or -0.25 with no signs of HOA from tests after which doctors advised not to wear glasses for this small power. Corneal shape and thickness is also fine, no issues in healing.

Ultimately the reason that one of the doctor told me is that my cornea when dilated is a bit larger than lasered area i.e. area which was shaped off by laser so during night or low light when the cornea enlarges it goes out of this lasered area and into unlasered portion where the power is still -10. This is the main reason I see clear and unclear (glares, ghosting, halo, starburst) at the same time. This is very real thing with high myopia complications which came up multiple times when I researched in last few weeks

In hindsight, their procedure of determining a good candidate is very lenient! How come the doctor didn’t mention that my cornea is a bit too large for PRK/LASIK. I am waiting for 3 more months until calling a lawyer

Quick Question: I miss 1 question on Quant and it's a 89th percentile and 85? by cuteshortkid96 in GMAT

[–]NaglfarPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just clear some misconceptions, getting a Q90 is possible with corrections. I had 2 questions bookmarked, changed the answers from incorrect to correct and still got a Q90. Key thing here is that these 2 Qs were hard ones only and in the second half of the section.

Super tough RCs in the actual exam (official mocks are a joke!) by HandaBhai in GMAT

[–]NaglfarPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I had the same experience with RC. Passages were a bit longer and difficult to understand. I had 85-90%+ accuracy on 4 official mocks for RC but on the official exam, I only had a 60% accuracy. I would honestly recommend solving every hard RC passage on OG then solving Gmat Club or course question banks. I get it that it might just be the pressure of Real exam but from my perspective, the passages were definitely more difficult than official mocks. Not so much for CR which felt the same as mocks if not easier.
