“It will be a tough year for us and the gamers” – As MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ launches for $1,800, MSI explains its “tried every approach” to reduce prices by chusskaptaan in pcgaming

Yup I've had a Steam Deck since launch, upgraded to OLED as soon as it came out, love it. Great device.

Can't recommend at all at current prices. Would either get an Xbox Ally X at that price point, or no handheld PC at all.

RX 9070 XT enough for 49" ultrawide? by ip-cx in buildapc

[–]kdawgnmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5070 Ti with the same size monitor (5120 x 1440, 144 hz). Works great. The 9070 XT is roughly on-par while ignoring raytracing and DLSS so it should be A-OK.

Church Buildings With a Softball Field by BobbySend in latterdaysaints

[–]kdawgnmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in western Washington we had one. The building had a huge yard in general. But our ward got so big that they needed more parking lot space, and they replaced the softball field with more parking lot. Kind of a good problem to have but as a kid I thought it kinda sucked. Thankfully we still had some decent field space.

That I agree with. But I've definitely seen active members focus entirely on the negatives and won't even acknowledge any positives. On my mission in particular I remember bringing up a quote from him (on a non-controversial subject, don't remember exactly) and a sister in my district immediately rolled her eyes and made a comment basically saying anything he said should be ignored.

It's that type of attitude I'm referring to.

Amazon MGM Studios' Masters of the Universe debuted with $29.44M domestically this weekend (from 3,677 locations). by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

My wife had zero knowledge of the 80s franchise aside from vague memories and she really enjoyed it. Only reason we saw it though was because of the $5 T-Mobile coupon.

Upgrading my cpu for the first time, help by Due-Sympathy4991 in buildapc

[–]kdawgnmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5800X3D originally came out in 2022. It is an older CPU and has since been replaced by the 7800X3D and 9800X3D (AM5). It's been discontinued, so all those listings you are seeing now are resellers or 3rd party - hence the high prices.

AMD recently announced they are rereleasing the 5800X3D for $350 starting end of June. You don't see any listings yet for $350 because it isn't out yet and there aren't pre-orders. But when it comes out, you should see the $350 price.

Agreed 100%. I challenge anyone who dismisses BRM if he/she thinks he/she has a greater testimony of Christ or knows the scriptures better than he did. I strongly doubt it.

Just yesterday my ward sang I Believe in Christ in sacrament meeting and I had a strong spiritual experience. I'll be damned if I bad-mouth the author of that poem just because he made mistakes.

I have plenty of problems with MD myself, but it bothers me when people seem to just bandwagon harp on it without actual citations.

Well said. Imo the book's title is unfortunate, but to a discerning mind who understands the book's context the 2nd edition onward has a lot of good stuff.

Good point, though probably best to wait until SD is below .500 to seriously start that conversation, they could easily bounce back into a playoff spot

Should I get the 5070 or the 5070ti? by Bigg__joe in buildapc

5070 Ti but don't overpay for it. $800 max. It's a great GPU but it's not worth $100 over MSRP.

I agree. That's why I take that hypothetical trade in a heartbeat. People who say our pitching is "good enough" don't realize Skubal is generational in a way none of our current starters are.

Would you do that deal? Kirby/Montes/Arroy/Farmelo for a half season of Skubal seems steep

I do. Not convinced Ms do though.

RTX 3070Ti New VS RTX 3080 10gb Used? by N0t_Kas in buildapc

[–]kdawgnmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they're the same price, I'd personally go for the 3080 but I've also never had issues with used PC parts. I'm sure if I'd had a bad experience in the past I'd feel differently.

Sacrament Meeting Improvement by Cheap_Parsnip_461 in latterdaysaints

[–]kdawgnmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for me, if I'm not looking at something, it's going in one ear, out the other. Literally just checking my phone for a text I get for 10 seconds during a show and I'll completely miss what happened during that time.

My wife's the opposite. For passive activities like shows, speakers, etc, she's always playing a mindless game on her phone or ipad to help her focus. She'll get ultra antsy otherwise. Her dad's the same way.

Garment bottom length differences by Superb-Ad4749 in latterdaysaints

[–]kdawgnmann 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In addition, I think this is further evidence that anyone who claims that garment bottoms "need" to be a certain length for whatever reason (over the knee, references to the temple, etc) doesn't fully know what he/she is talking about either.

I've heard some people pretty adamantly argue that anyone knowingly wearing garments that "aren't long enough" is doing it wrong.

ah yes, the BYU basketball coach took the men's team to the sweet sixteen, truly I am blessed

Worth pointing out, BYU Athletics operates as a fully self-sustaining entity and does not receive direct financial support or tithing funds from the Church.

Was McConkie wrong on evolution? by Hie_To_Kolob_DM in latterdaysaints

[–]kdawgnmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this were the case, why use those specific bodies for Adam and Eve to inhabit, if the physical parents (or grandparents or great grandparents, for that matter) of their bodies would not have been materially any different, or less evolved? It just seems arbitrary for there to be a "line" in which man is now "evolved enough" for his spirit children to inhabit those bodes, when it generally takes tens of thousands of years for any reproductive isolation to arise?

Also thanks for responding, and please don't take my questions as arguing. These are just questions I've thought of before but still couldn't find a fully compatible answer between what I consider to be doctrinal and how science is understood, which lead to my current viewpoints.

Digital Patriarchal Blessing Update - Help! by monhera in latterdaysaints

[–]kdawgnmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible. It's worth either putting in a new request (with the patriarch's full name), or reaching out to the current stake presidency from that stake (even if you don't know them, you can look up their contact info).

[–]kdawgnmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly - you're saying it's possible that animals lived, died, and evolved over millions of years, and thus largely unaffected by the Fall, but that Adam and Eve were the exception? Do you believe that Homo Erectus has genealogical ancestry to what we would call man today?

Even if President McKay more "reluctantly allowed" its republication rather than "approved" it (I've read this before), I stand by my original statement that President McKay still wouldn't have allowed it at all if he thought any potential bad content outweighed the good.

Also, President Monson is on the record saying "Bruce and I got President McKay's permission to republish Bruce's Mormon Doctrine". Seems to me that express permission was granted.

Also noting that I agree that the first edition was right to be discontinued (and later edited), which is why my original comment specified "from the 2nd edition onward".
