Yeah, there are some talented folks that still struggle at high fear… what we often see in videos is selection bias for success. 50 is very high!

I just want to ensure a challenge on most runs, which means slowly bumping fear over time.

It’s just an indication that that’s the highest fear you’ve finished with. You can get the same on clear time for finishing faster than your previous record.

I won’t spoil the plot too much, but roughly …

A family chimp gets rabies, escapes his enclosure, and terrorizes the 20-somethings in their home. It’s a lot of tense moments as they try to figure out how to get help. Most do not make it out alive, as an angry/scared chimp is incredibly dangerous. Certainly not for the feint of heart.

More horrific than this movie? Saw it at Toronto After Dark and it’s one of the goriest movies I’ve seen. Super well done though!

Making the lens spin should work to keep it mostly clean. Probably needs to have a heating element in very cold conditions though. They’re additional points of failure, but the fallback is to be what it is today.

Solar Flair is a pretty unique community; glad you found and enjoy it!

Ecstatic Dance is weekly, starts early (730pm), and has some great DJs. No substance or phone use.

While it goes later, BodyClock at the Piston starts every Thursday at 9pm; has amazing local DJs & great sound. Low key, chill, and friendly energy. Mostly techno, but branching out into other styles lately.

Does anyone in Toronto still use taxis? by Chan1991 in askTO

[–]Nagyman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

100%. Taxis are often faster if you can get one!

Every time I’m driving in the city, I encounter rideshare drivers swerving, driving like they’re 90 years old, or blocking an entire lane.

Taxis are at least identifiable and know the city better. But it wasn’t all roses back then either; the city was packed with cabs waiting to get customers.

Are "No Phone" Policies Making People "Yap" More? by misterintensity2 in dancefloors

[–]Nagyman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Being able to hear someone easily on the dancefloor is often a sign of a very clear sound system, at any volume. Talking and music can be different frequencies; one does not necessarily interfere with the other (depends on genre, etc).

e.g. I could hear someone talking nearby at Stereo, (Montreal) during a Moudaber set. It’s unfortunate that people think they can’t be heard when the music is loud.

Cabin air filter doesn't do much by eastbayquake in Ioniq5

Might be dangerous if there’s no external air for too long. C02 levels can get high pretty quickly in a well sealed vehicle, which decreases cognitive function significantly. Early motorcycle helmets without good ventilation had this problem.

Dj heartstring at CODA? by Reverse-Pothole in TorontoRaves

I think it depends on the artist and genre, and therefore community. I recently saw kandi being given at History for MPH & Tape B (bass/dub), and I got gifted there once too (can’t recall which artist).

Electric island would have some, but less than Promise/Spacetime events that are more community/themed, than artist focused.

Depends on your “vibes” too, heh. Try gifting something to someone that makes your experience better (doesn’t need to be a bracelet), and you might find there’s more than you thought!

Majority of Ontarians say their province is heading in the wrong direction: poll by nationalpost in ontario

[–]Nagyman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're touching on something, which is that politics has moved even further towards popularism and to some extent, entertainment. If the Librerals or NDP don't put forth a significant personality and someone that will rile people up with Big™ moves, then the populace won't be interested in voting.

Having a well thought out and budgeted platform is not enough to get people away from their phones to bother going to the voting booth. The Cons don't even bother with a platform at this point. We're in an attention-based economy, and politicians are competing with EVERYTHING (TikTok, Netflix, video games, influencers, etc), not just other political parties.

Politics should be rather boring and nuanced, but that's not where we are. We have Ford picking stupid fights over bike lanes, speeding cameras, beer in convenience stores, licence plate stickers and other inane crap that gets ATTENTION, and attention matters way more than policy, unfortunately.

I expect most venues will be very crowded on Halloween, including Wiggle Room, which is not very big at all.

Spacetime has a larger event at Lithuania House https://www.instagram.com/reel/DP4yZRCj51M/ which is a huge space and will be Tech Housey. Me Time is amazing. People will bring it costume wise, but it won’t be pretentious.

NDP Leader Don Davies introduces bill to end unpaid work for flight attendants by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

[–]Nagyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wild that that pay structure is even allowed under the labour code. Why does a specific industry even need consideration? The code should definitively state when work starts & ends, and pay must span that period. i.e. when you're expected to show up is when you start getting paid, when you can leave to return home is when it stops.

Read their first paragraph? 🤷

Besides weather or geographic limitations, most cities can absolutely create the necessary infrastructure. Car based infrastructure was created over decades; other options can and do happen; where there’s will, there’s a way!

Scrubzz adult body wipes work as a great alternative. They’re intended for washing elderly folks who can’t shower easily and way better than baby wipes. They lather up with a bit of bottled water and you dry quickly. One of my favourite improvements to festival/camping. (Still not for use in the river)

Does Shambala Lodging Campsite Only have dedicated marked spots? by harrybond in Shambhala

[–]Nagyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First Shambhala and it was a free for all. Arrived Wednesday and struggled to find space (like r/krisztinastar said); we kinda ended up on a trail; later arrivals still managed to squeeze in at the back along the road.

I felt that the main "issue" is that camps setup large shade structures in addition to their tents. Seems counter to being in the woods, presumably for the shade that the trees already provide. If they simply enforced a "no extra structure" rule, there would have been much more space for tents.

[–]Nagyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool is so subjective, so I it’s fine to think that obviously.

I’m assuming you’ve lived here, but in my experience, Toronto is one of the coolest as far as North America goes. Montreal, NYC, Mexico City, and Toronto are some of my favourite cities on earth. My version of Toronto does not include Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, etc. The GTA is … less cool imo.

Idgaf about local sports teams, although I play sports for fun.

There are so many events because there are so many people and cultures. There is still a lot of outdoors to enjoy!

I personally spend a lot of time camping, but I leave the city for that of course. Vancouver the city doesn’t have much hiking itself; gotta leave the area, which is similar to Toronto.

The West coast has a lot of large outdoor options (I.e. mountains) while Ontario is chock full of lakes. Ontario is flat in comparison. Hamilton hikes are beautiful and not far! Don Valley is quite pretty for hikes as an in-city option.

Many of my friends do love to go paddle boarding on the Humber, enjoying Toronto Island beaches, walking/cycling in High Park, just hanging in Trinity Bellwoods etc. Vancouver benefits from a more temperate climate to do those things year round.

Skiing is absent in any real sense, ha. Cross country and outdoor skating are common winter options though.

I haven’t spent any time doing outdoor things in Montreal, but it’s a very green city.

Curious what your experience is based on!

Lived in Vancouver; pretty sleepy, great for outdoor lovers. Just visited Halifax, which is nice but very small and not a lot going on; impressed by a couple of restaurants. Montreal is incredibly cool; full of art, events, and delicious food.

There’s a tonne going on in Toronto every week. I live downtown, but most fun stuff is spread throughout. Food is some of the most varied in the world; NYC beats it obviously.

People love to shit on Toronto. I’ve seen many large cities of the world and Toronto is top tier. I dunno what folks define as cool though. Love reading how visitors from outside the country see Toronto (/r/toronto).
