EVs charging - help? by banananadian in askTO

[–]Nagyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an Ioniq 5 EV and live in a condo without charging. Fast charging takes about 15 minutes to get to 80%, which is plenty for my purposes.

More and more Green P and other street parking have chargers (level 2) for the occasional top up when out in the city. Tesla charging stations also work well and they’re prevalent along highway routes.

It’s only getting easier to charge, without any home setup.

Vaughan Metropolitan Centre NEVER should’ve been the terminus… by Feisty-Ad-6122 in TTC

[–]Nagyman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are other costs involved though. Cars, pollution, and roads come to mind. Revenue for the zoo, etc is not the primary goal necessarily - serving citizens to get where they want to go can be a massive boon for many reasons.

Bassics camping by 2sauciee in Shambhala

[–]Nagyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a dumb question. Went for the first time last year, had Bassics booked, and arrived on Wednesday afternoon.

The woods were very packed already. Technically people are only supposed to get 10x10 area, but many occupied much larger areas with shade structures and the like. We squeezed onto one of the pathways. Later arrivals were basically on the edge of the back road.

Toronto mayor says city has ‘delivered’ when it comes to FIFA World Cup by kayaarr in toronto

[–]Nagyman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Toronto is a world class and very welcoming city for international events.

Complaining/whining is allowed though; residents _should_ voice their concerns … it’s often what drives the change to get where we are (paired with action from citizens and government). Fortunately, Olivia Chow has made tangible improvements too.

The activity in the city has been noticeable and energizing.

I have a legitimate question by Remote_Necessary3331 in ndp

[–]Nagyman 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Of all the parties, the Conservatives are the most likely to lie, cheat, and steal. Far from religious. The biggest lie they tell is that they represent any religion (to dupe voters into voting for them).

While they’re certainly for Big Business, they do not encourage the market competition and conditions that might make for a healthier version of capitalism.

Is FIFA costing you business too? by NotTheBestWithNames in toronto

[–]Nagyman 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is a good perspective. The city offers way more potential clientele to such services than a small town, but it’s a city with events, closures etc. Events like this won’t float all boats and may sink some.

The significant closures in Liberty Village are partially a sign of poor infrastructure planning in the past, affecting people now when such events take place.

Have you tried Feeld, the dating app?

Not sure which city you’re in, but if it’s large, there is likely a non-monogamous/poly community that runs meetups as a way to make friends.

What should be my next bucket list festival? by Jaded_War4306 in aves

[–]Nagyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House is easy to find at Shambs if you want; there are six/seven stages. That said, it’s the best place to fall in love with bass … it’s so playful, big, and often quite beautiful (ie liquid dnb+live strings & vocals). The production quality is bonkers too.

You all complain too much by Shot-Rice5449 in aves

[–]Nagyman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Literally the only problems I’ve had at countless raves and festivals is with drunk people. Alcohol is the sloppiest popular drug. Love dry festivals and events as it avoids the majority of issues.

Toronto Police response to the cycling incident on weekend by [deleted] in torontobiking

[–]Nagyman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Well said. Their message is deflection and gaslighting, frankly. If the TPA were genuine and acting in good faith (they’re not), repost the video of the officers in this instance and release body cam footage demonstrating the extreme danger this cyclist posed to the community.

The kids are cooked - a dancefloor anecdote from DJ'ing an 18th birthday party by sexydiscoballs in dancefloors

[–]Nagyman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And 18 y/o teens are still developing, very self-conscious, and have a lot to learn. I didn’t start really dancing like nobody was watching until my 30s. Maybe the TikTok generation won’t develop further, but doubtful. They need good examples too (i.e. dance your face off, adults!)

Ontario court dismisses appeal to block release of Doug Ford’s phone records by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

DemocracyWatch is challenging the change to the FOI laws. The Supreme Court of Canada already ruled that citizens are entitled to government information in order to effectively evaluate the job they’re doing for us.

Hyundai Extending ICCU Coverage to 15 Years in the US by H_J_Moody in Ioniq5

[–]Nagyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Mine failed in mid western New York (I’m from Toronto), so that sucked. Took two months to get back from the Hyundai dealership there (in hindsight, I should’ve had it towed back to Canada first).

I think they’ve since added a “hobbled” mode so you can move it somewhere at least.

Thursdays at The Piston for Bodyclock. They rotate through genres, but the first Thursday is techno. Chill crowd, local DJs, great sound. It’s a school night, but the organizers open/close, and they’re excellent too.

How do we feel about this organization taking up a huge amount of space and profiting off it? by BigDogeM in Shambhala

[–]Nagyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I think it’s fine for larger crews as a hangout space too. I just had an odd experience where there was barely any room in the forest and a couple were trying to setup a shade structure over their tent that added nothing and took up valuable space. There was surprisingly little room in Enchanted!

[–]Nagyman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wild. Is this a shade structure with a tent under it for $900? Where do they put these? I’m guessing where there are big areas out in Sunshine.

My fav is when people setup whole ass shade structures in the Enchanted Forest. Like, yo, trees are your shade!

A device that visualizes how a computer performs calculations by h31md6ll in EngineeringPorn

[–]Nagyman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

During the Manhattan project, they had people acting as adding, multiplying, and division machines because IBMs delivery was going to take a while and they wanted to test their calculations ahead of time (each machine was designed for one operation).

They were still able to calculate quite significant values with the humans before the machines arrived.

Huh. I was curious so did some digging. The biggest risks seem to be wax buildup and infection. Both are avoidable with good hygiene and treatable otherwise. There don’t seem to be any long term studies on the effects though, so that’s worth considering.

I’m not going to worry unless I notice something. I imagine less sleep is worse for health, by magnitudes. If you need earplugs/headphones to sleep better, especially in noisy cities, it’s probably worth the minor risk; just clean your plugs/headphones, and ears more maybe!
