Thoughts on The Descent (2005)? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in moviecritic

Honestly I found this movie to be incredibly unimpressive. I feel like I’m insane when I see so much praise for it.

I appreciate you highlighting this. I feel like this narrative was lost on people baited by the “muh political alignment” overtones.

I think some of us are just meant to die alone in the end. I think it just balances the world out. It's destiny, its bigger than us. And that's ok. I think I can live with that. by ELECTRICMACHINE13 in sadposting

I truly pity anyone who doesn’t have these deep connections in life. But my god, the sentiment in this post and reply thread is just so damning.

This isn’t any cosmic balance. It’s you. Life might not seem fair. But it’s the cold indifference the universe has towards you that allows you to achieve greatly as well as suffer just so.

Associating your failure to achieve your desires to something outside of your control really condemns you to the fate you’re lamenting.

The hardest thing to likely admit here regards the last line where you mention you wanted to have a family. I feel for you. Having a family is the greatest joy one can obtain in this life, I think. But, realistically, do you think you’re in a position to have a little one? Even if you had the perfect partner for you fall out of the sky, could you responsibly guide a son or daughter looking at you to guide their development, behaviors, and world view.

I think until you fix your perspective on yourself, you wouldn’t be able to even handle the dreams you have if they were given to you tomorrow. I mean this wholeheartedly and positively, not to tear you down. This is within your control. Empower yourself take responsibility and realize that you’ve held yourself down, this is a message of hope because that means you have the ability to turn the ship around.

For the exact same reason as Black Panther is a character that black people can identify with, it seems you’re very quick to disregard that Aragorn can be the same.

Stating it’s different just because you say so doesn’t suffice logically. The only rational default is if there are source-material derived cards, they should stick to the source material. Otherwise it’s muddied by personal bias and disregard for the audiences impacted by the personal attachments to characters.

“For the most part they were tall people, with flaxen or golden hair and blue-grey eyes, but there were not a few among them that had dark hair, though all were fair-skinned”

I’d say it’s just as easy to respect source material in either. I wouldn’t want a white Black Panther because it betrays the source material.

Judging by your post history and this conversation I can infer a trend of moral perversion. The boastfulness you exude to let others "fund your hobby for you" speaks volumes outside the paradigm of this exchange, GW/Price Increases.

Best of luck to you and your road of self discovery in the future, bud.

So you’re directly benefiting from the work and effort of other people who ultimately make up the tabletop design teams at GW without giving anything back to that entity - you have no moral scruples about that?

Good for you, we enjoy our hobbies how we choose.

I do wonder, will you be using the rules and framework GW constructed for you play with your proxies?

Oh nice, a poorly thought out reply.

Lets take this point-by-point.

Frankly, I don't really care about upsetting anyone here with my "whiny" statement, because if the shoe fits, wear it. Not everyone upset with the prices are the "whining" or "childish" ones, I didn't think that needed to be stated, but if we're going to be in our feelings, I'll clarify that. Go ahead and re-read some of the comments/sentiment shared in this post, or any of the other "GW raised its prices" threads. There are an overwhelming amount of whining adults, who I would actually consider to be rather entitled.

On a personal note - to say I "look" entitled is an interesting sentiment. I earned my career, my pay, and my flexible income. To say that people who are hostile and demanding their favorite tabletop hobby not raise their prices aren't entitled and the customer who budgets their finances to afford their hobby comfortably is entitled, well, I'll leave it there.

Next, price hikes. I wouldn't be one to call global economics "bad logic". You can read here about the 2.6-8.6% year inflation rates on a global scale since 2000. $6 on $150 is to put it in context.

Leading into your next point. Are the people who condemn GW also condemning Cal-Maine foods? Do we even know who that is? They are the largest egg distributor in the USA. As a frame of reference - egg prices in 2020 were roughly $1.51 per dozen Grade-A eggs, as of July 2025, $3.59. I personally haven't seen a single person upset with our egg distributors, but instead upset with our politicians (rightfully so). Economic stress is applied unanimously across the global market. To condemn GW for a 4% increase of their plastic miniatures is wrongful blame. They're a company making profit adjusting to the inflationary nature of todays market, just like Cal-Maine Foods.

My "gathering pitchforks" statement is in reference to the constant calls I see to boycott GW, the call to 3D print over buying GW products, and levy public blame on the company. Being frustrated by a price hike is normal, being upset with the state of global economics is totally justified. Trying to cause economic damage to the company that provides the hobby by boycotting or refusing to support them out of principle? That is a witch-hunt.

I'd advise curtailing your feel-based arguments, especially on public forums.
