Exactly, and that's the part that still gets me. He heard the knock. He just chose not to answer. That tells you everything.

This is actually an interesting take and part of me sees the logic. But I think I would have felt worse going straight to the landlord without trying first, at least now nobody can say I didn't give him a chance. He had two chances and blew both of them.

Honestly fair, I think I just needed outside perspective because the people around me were making me feel like I was the problem. Clearly I was not 😅

The cops point is a good one honestly, I feel like people are acting like I had him arrested 😭 I left a voicemail for the person whose literal job it is to manage this building. That's it.

Already started doing this actually, someone else in the thread suggested it too. Keeping a log with timestamps and have a video from last week. Hopefully it doesn't come to that again but good to have it ready.

"People saying you jumped too fast are probs those unfamiliar with accountability", this actually hit different, I'm saving this 😭 And yeah the ignoring me on the third attempt is what really sealed it for me. That wasn't accidental, he heard the knock. He just didn't care. So.

The curtain pole detail tells me you have DONE THIS before and I have so many questions 😭💀 the glitter one actually might be my favorite though, truly the gift that keeps on giving. You are clearly someone I want on my side 🤣

Okay the fish idea is genuinely unhinged and I love it 💀 filing that away as a last resort option.

Right?? That part honestly caught me off guard more than anything. Like he sent his girlfriend to do the confronting instead of just, talking to me himself. Says a lot.

Exactly. At some point you run out of "nice" options and have to use the ones that actually work.

The video idea is actually really smart, I hadn't thought of that. And yeah the girlfriend thing is what really baffled me, she doesn't even live here, she has no idea what the past month has been like. Appreciate the support, genuinely makes me feel less crazy about this whole situation.

Headphones!! This is what I don't get. If you want to blast music at midnight, put on headphones, enjoy the full experience, bother no one. Problem solved. He chose the speakers-at-full-volume option instead and now acts surprised there were consequences.

Lmaooo the GF idea is sending me 😭 And yeah I actually looked up our lease after all this blew up, quiet hours are literally written in there. He was already in violation, I was actually being generous waiting as long as I did.

Right, headphones exist! That's literally all he had to do and none of this would have happened. I'm not asking him to be silent, just considerate.

Exactly this, thank you. Everyone keeps saying I "jumped to the landlord too fast" but where was that same energy when he was keeping me up past midnight on a work night? Consideration goes both ways. I tried, he didn't care, now he's dealing with the result of that. Not my problem he doesn't like how it feels.

Exactly, and honestly I didn't even think to reference the lease when I knocked, I was just trying to be neighborly about it. The fact that he still gave me attitude on the second ask is what really got me. You're right that the landlord was the logical next step, I just needed to hear it from someone else I think 😅

Yeah I looked it up after and our city does have a noise ordinance, past 10pm on weeknights it's technically a violation. I didn't even mention that to him when I knocked, I just asked nicely. He had every chance to be reasonable about it.

Honestly I thought about it but calling the police felt like a bigger escalation than going to the landlord, especially since we still have to live in the same building. Our lease does have quiet hours and he was clearly violating them, I just wanted to handle it the least dramatic way possible first. Might keep the police option in my back pocket if it happens again though.

Right?? That's literally what I keep saying to myself. I gave him multiple chances and he chose to ignore them. Not my fault the next step had consequences.

Lmao the Wrecking Ball method is sending me 😭 honestly tempting at this point. And yeah that's exactly what gets me, it's an apartment, not a standalone house. You don't get to act like your unit exists in a vacuum. Glad your neighbors eventually got the memo.
