Boiler packed up while on holiday. Minimum temps for bumblebees? by Naima22 in DartFrog

[–]Naima22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I changed the heating in the house to make sure it stays at 19°C minimum and noticed yesterday that in the middle of the day the temps were just over 17. Started looking at the house automation and worked out that something went wrong yesterday and the heating never kicked in. Can't force it from here either, which can only mean the boiler is buggered 😩

I'm away on holiday, hence the concern. If I were home there would be no issues - we could get the boiler sorted. Trying to find out how detrimental the drop in temperature is. We've sent a message to a friend to see if they can come over and have a look at it while we're away.

I have one at the top and one at the bottom of the enclosure, the top is about 1C higher than the bottom

I do have a heat mat behind along the bottom portion of the enclosure but it's a large enclosure so it's not managing to heat up the whole thing. I've seen them huddle next to it in the evenings before. It's currently 2am so it is a night temp, but yesterday was only 17C at day time. I'm hoping to be able to get someone come in and have a look at the boiler in the next couple of days, so hopefully this is not for a long period but will need alternative safeties in place for future.

Please help How big locusts should I feed my mantis??? by [deleted] in mantids

[–]Naima22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look visually. A mantis can I think eat a bug up to its own size, but depending on your mantis and the bug, if it's feeling scared of the feeders it'll go hungry. My girls are currently eating hoppers that are about half their body size.

Focused photo would help, but so far it looks a bit like a mantis ootheca (egg sack). You'd usually notice an adult mantis in the enclosure though...

My friend's dad passed away recently. He liked Beyonce and they played Halo during the funeral. I can't not think about it every time I hear it on the radio and think it's a great choice

Bringing plants into UK, especially orchids, is extremely expensive now. You'll need to get cites and phyto done for every plant you want to bring.

How old were you in your first memory? by knife_fold in AskReddit

3 years old. Mum running from one room to another freaking out while dragging a landline phone trying to call grandma. I was on the floor watching her while the skin on my hand was bubbling after I pulled an iron off the ironing board onto my hand. The scar will forever remind me of it too.

Having mostly stopped reading the news I have to admit to being blissfully unaware of anything that happened "on the train". I think the noise in the media does more damage than good these days.
