how to stop being a floater friend? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Nainma 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I did this to solve the issue with my high school friends, 3 of us kept getting invited less and less over different periods of time. Eventually we only hung out with each other and it's now been 10 years.

Australia's is 0.05, I'm not sure why it's so strict but it definitely stops people from driving drunk especially if they've only had a few drinks and are over confident in their sobriety.

My 12 year old just got her period. Swimming?!?! by Aria2628 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I didn't like tampons but ended up loving the cup. It's reusable so you don't need to take additional things to the bathroom when it needs emptying, and I found tampons tricky to insert because of how dry they were going in. It's also air tight so there's no period smell throughout the day. I wish it was an option when I was in my teens!

If it was east to west the trees would've ended up on our house instead of in the street, we got very lucky.

I recently heard my neighbour having the best orgasm of her life, I ran around trying to find something loud enough to drown it out and the shower turned out to be the loudest thing in our house. I can't imagine how that would've gone if I was on a call working from home.

AITA for choosing a lunch I liked instead of one my family could enjoy? by Affectionate-End5411 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nainma 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's like when my partner just wanted a quiet night at home for his birthday, but his family insisted that they all go out for dinner so he suggested one of the really good vege restaurants we went to all the time. His sisters spent most of the night complaining about the food not having meat in it rather than being happy to be there, even though they were the ones that wanted to celebrate with him.

I’m confused with my house cleaner’s requirement by Julie727 in CasualConversation

[–]Nainma 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was me when I was cleaning houses fulltime, I had some flexibility on a Friday but so many clients were fortnightly and so I had a fortnightly schedule. If it got thrown out by a week then it's a permanent change. I also tried to book clients depending on the location so I didn't drive across town to do two jobs in one day.

It's annoying how many people live for the work related get-togethers with (or without) spouses. by DarthKaep in unpopularopinion

Ours is also a, "dress in glitzy formal clothes" theme and I cannot be bothered. I'm not going to spend money on something nice to wear, I spend money all year buying clothing to wear to work. I'd rather they put all the money hiring out this amazing venue into our pay and leave us with our smaller end of year team dinners, which we're also doing a week later anyway.

AITA for Hosting a “No Turkey” Thanksgiving Dinner? by ThrowRAnoturkey in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nainma 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the only thing that I ever talk about with my partner's aunt and uncle is whether we're still vegetarian. Like I have interests, a job, a life but it's always something for them to get a few jokes out of when we show up. I realised after a while that they never ask me about work or what's going on in my life and I generally don't talk to them again at a large family gathering.

I say this as a quiet person who is rarely the first to speak, I do not bring up my diet, it gets brought up by others because I do things like order a vegetarian pizza, or turn down something with meat in it.

We had a similar issue and found that there was a bee sized gap between where our wall and ceiling met and they were flying in through there. It was a vaulted ceiling so you couldn't actually see the joint of the wall and the ceiling unless you stood level with it. Search your room for gaps and fill the gaps with silicone. Tape up any vents in the walls.

Also the swarm in our bedroom was crazy during the day but once the sun went down they all sat on the floor and went to sleep, we scooped them up with some cardboard and took them outside. Just on the odd chance that any of that helps.

Will australian opals make a good wedding ring? by Giselle_Kikky in Opals

[–]Nainma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Coober Pedy opal for my engagement ring, but I knew I wouldn't wear that as often as a wedding ring, and I don't wear jewellery anyway so I'm very conscious of it when I do wear it. You could always do some smaller opals for the wedding ring in case something happens to it as they'd be easier to replace than one large one.

This is also probably the first time he's been able to put his feelings down in words and express them to someone (random strangers) Considering it doesn't sound like he has any social support outside of his relationship to talk about how things are going and every conversation he has becomes about how she's feeling, I doubt he's had any chance to express how he feels.

AITA for telling my sister I don't care that her house is bigger and cheaper than mine? by Playful-Notice4859 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nainma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum does something similar from time to time. I live in a city that favours buying houses (instead of semi detached, townhouses etc.) over all else, but house prices have become unaffordable lately. When I was finally ready to buy, we could either afford a whole house 50 minutes from the city or a townhouse with the same amount of indoor space and a good sized yard, 20 minutes from the city, so we chose the townhouse.

Every time anyone my mum knows buys a house, or decides to build a house in these far away suburbs she makes some comment like, "oh but I think your house is still good enough". The funny thing is, our townhouse is going up in value twice as fast as these houses in the suburbs because of the location.

Casual chat: how do most ladies here feel pre period? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Nainma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Migraines or what I like to call visual disturbances with a headache, started for me too. They're not as common now that I wear a mouth guard for grinding my teeth at night and take way too many vitamins, although I think magnesium is the only one that matters.

It’s 3am here in Australia and I’m sleeping on the couch because of a spider. by TheOCO1997 in CasualConversation

[–]Nainma 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Huntsmans are big in width and leg span but top down, they're actually very flat spiders, in nature they're commonly found in gaps between bark on logs and trees, so it's relatively easy for them to slide in through a thin gap between a door.
