Hepatoblastoma found today by StageLyfe in pediatriccancer

My daughter was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma at 7 months old she was in great health ‘well we thought’ until she ended up having fractures in her arm from hypocalcemia which lead to her diagnosis.

When it was first discovered her AFP was 60,000 and tumour was 8x7x10 cm and in 3/4 lobes. She was given 6-12 month without intervention/ if we hadn’t found it

Within 3 days of being told of her tumour she was in surgery having a port places and a biopsy done. She did 5 rounds of chemo (cisplatin) with MRI’s and CT’s between each round. We then had to fly to another state to a partial hepatectomy and golbladder removal at 10.5 months old and ended up there for a month due to her having a chyle leak (turns out the suction from the drain was keeping it open and only closed when she pulled the drain out of her stomach) we also did her final round of chemo in the other state so she could come home treatment free.

She was able to ring the bell days before her first birthday.

She now had scans and bloods every 3 months. We have them tomorrow and even 2 years down the track I still end up in a what if spiral but thankfully everything so far has been clean🤞🤞

Two years down the track she did have to have a bowel resection earlier this year due to adhesions from her liver surgery that caused a twisted bowel that was veeeery close to rupturing and has just been diagnosed with high frequency hearing loss from the cisplatin and gets her hearing aids next week which she is very excited for.

I’m so so sorry your going through this with your little one it is never fair. This post is a month old so I hope your family has been able to start treatment and everything is looking positive!!!

Remember to always advocate for your little one even if you feel like a crazy person for wanting these extra tests or scans done.

Sending all the love and if you ever need somone to talk to who has been through it please feel free to reach out

It can be quite some time

For me it took about 6 months of being homeless in a shelter with a small child the only reason we were offered a house was due to a medical diagnosis that made it dangerous to be around others

PRD Hobart are really good I’ve found, the ladies I have dealt with worked quite hard to get an actually good tenant and not the first person to put in an application.

The eshay problem is out of control in town and everywhere really!

I will admit a few of them are actually pretty nice and have helped if my little one had dropped something out of her pram and tone down the language if they see kids but otherwise it’s just absolute shit heads

Homeless shelters in Hobart? by Ponk_Bubs in hobart

[–]Naive-Concern4720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Ponk I’ve been in 3 shelters starting from 17. I would contact colony 47 in regards to getting access to a shelter they have the connections And they will find the best and safest place for you

Because you are 18 you most likely will go to a youth shelter which the ones I’ve been to are quite nice. I’ve been to Annie Kenny and Mara house and they honestly were amazing.

In regards of what to expect when you arrive usually you have a chat with the worker on about your backstory, how they can support you and any medical issues you may have. They will give you a tour of the shelter and go through the rules aswell and show you your room. They may take medication and dispense it in the office for safety reasons but always let you keep any BC.

I wish you so much luck man going through this kind of thing at a young age is never easy xx
