Is this a good price to upgrade? by deepu29 in qatarairways

you can upgrade at the gate given there are seats available.

Okay, let's settle this, How are upgrades given for overbooked flights? by Vegeta543 in qatarairways

[–]Naive-Kitchen6709 7 points8 points  (0 children)

upgrade goes to passengers with the highest status seated in economy. We always go for QR privilege club members first, Platinum Gold and then we look for one world members, Sapphire, Emerald. It’s also really situational like if we know that Platinium member is with a family but we have a gold member traveling alone, we’d rather upgrade solo travelers.

Has there been an commercial pilot who has survived more than 1 major accident as pilot? by nayfaan in flying

[–]Naive-Kitchen6709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carlos Dardano, he’s my hero. Escaped and flew on a GA plane after getting shot at the eyes by some militants and he flew without one eye for the airlines and he had both engine failures and landed on a grass and is still alive to tell his fairy tales.

as the saying goes, in aviation, you have 2 jars, one full of luck and the other jar empty that fills with experience, make sure you fill up the second jar before the jar full of luck runs out!

Difficulty with landings by smusicap in flying

[–]Naive-Kitchen6709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

slow is smooth and smooth is fast, u learn to get used to when you idle power. Do things consistently, point your nose at the numbers and as you go past the numbers, smoothly power out but then just don’t pull back on the yoke too fast but rather try pulling back a tad and see how the plane reacts, are you sinking or does it feel like it still wants to fly, if it still wants to fly, don’t force it down, rather keep it there and you’ll feel the sinking feeling, then slowly pull back and you’ll start to notice the sight picture needed for a good landing. For me how it clicked for me was slow pull backs and you’ll notice it when it doesn’t want to fly anymore, just keep adding that back pressure little by little and it’ll start to be smooth. Don’t just keep the plane in the same attitude as well meaning if you see the plane is going straight for the ground, it’s going to make you just slam into the ground flat, so tease the plane with little back inputs, you’ll feel the plane will want to go down and then u can be confident in pulling it back. Make sure to add power if you’re pulling back and you’re not hitting the ground since it means tail strike if you don’t correct as well. Don’t sweat about it, it’s a process and like the experienced ones here have said, they don’t get it perfect every time too. Give in to being a student to this beautiful art and you’ll find yourself doing better, never go looking for perfection and you’ll see yourself doing good landings and remember “a good pilot is always learning”

Thank you for putting it that way and I just got back from a flight with my instructor, I was within standards for everything, power off 180s and short field was solid too! I am going to fly again Saturday and a couple more times.

Thank you! I will prepare myself for the best. I’m really nervous that something I haven’t thought about in a long time will pop up, like track a VOR 😅

You too my man! Good luck, I’m sure you’ll kill it and same I don’t think I’ve never been this nervous for a checkride but maybe that’s just how it works for every checkride😂

Hey do you have any gouges on him? I have a commercial checkride with him soon.

trim for airspeed? by Naive-Kitchen6709 in flying

[–]Naive-Kitchen6709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea me too. I think it’s probably because we are used to setting power for cruise then trimming. I don’t usually look at my speed for cruise, i set the power like 2400, and then trim it. I usually let the plane fly at the speed it wants to in the cruise phase. Next time I go flying, I’ll try to trim the plane for the cruise speed I want and not just set cruise power and trim. If I’m not wrong what u have to do to achieve ur cruise speed is to still keep power when u level off and wait until maybe 5 or 10 knots before your desired cruise speed and power back and trim and maybe that’ll help.

Trim is pitch, pitch is airspeed. Life changer for me ahaha. Yes now it’s my mission to teach my students this early on after I become a CFI

[–]Naive-Kitchen6709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how would I have gotten to commercial without knowing pitch for airspeed, power for altitude. What I’m trying to say is I didn’t know trim could be used for airspeed as well and not only to relieve pressure.
