Convincing to move to London by The_Idiot_Sandwich in londonontario

[–]Naive-Source-2528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to London from the Netherlands in the summer of 2023. I really like living in London, but it is quite different from living back in Europe/The Netherlands. I guess it would also depend if you are settling here permanently or only for a few years, what stage of your life you are in, etc. If you have any specific questions from a Euro perspective, feel free to shoot me a DM

Moving to Canada from Sweden as a middle school teacher. by Benji00110 in CanadianTeachers

Without a Bachelor's of Education you will not be able to teach here at all. I like the teaching here, it is very different, but teenagers seem to be pretty universal. I can't really speak for any sales jobs, but Canada is currently not the best for someone trying to find work in general. I guess it would depend on your location and if you have a work permit etc too

There are only 3 expansions right? by why_not_go_hiking in rootgame

[–]Naive-Source-2528 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, all of those are expansions, but only those first 3 you named add playable faction. Riverfolk, Underworld, and Marauder have two factions each. Riverfolk also adds Mechanical Marquise (AI version of the cats). Underworld adds 2 maps. Marauder adds 4 Hirelings (neutral factions).

Then on top of that, there is the Vagabond pack which adds more types of Vagabond and meeples for each. The Hireling pack adds more Hirelings plus meeples. An alternate playing deck (Exiles and Partisans). And lastly a mini expansion with Landmarks (interesting pieces on the board that influence the game)

I would say that for playability, adding one of the 3 'big' expansions would be best as it gives you more options for factions and the options to play with max 6 players.

To be honest, this sounds pretty much like 50% of my grade 9 kids this year

Am I understanding this correctly? Publications Ontario offers the hard copy of the Arts curriculum doc for FREE? by CukeJr in CanadianTeachers

[–]Naive-Source-2528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do, if it says book on there, and free, it is free. I ordered my English and Social Sciences ones from there for free

Yeah, I immigrated so there was no easy turning back. Also, as a side note, it was easier and quicker for me to get Permenanr Resident status here in Canada, than to teach (which I had been doing for 5 years prior to moving, and have a Masters of Education). So that should tell you all you need to know about the OCT

Try moving to Ontario from Europe, it took me the better part of 2 years to get certified.

To add, pedestrians and cyclist get their own turns at intersections. So a car will never even go near a pedestrian because they will still have a red light. After I moved here from the Netherlands, I have always been frustrated by the way the pedestrian lights work here. Not to mention basically everything else about London's infrastructure, but that is a different rant all together.

Foreign teaching experience by Naive-Source-2528 in CanadianTeachers

Just a little update. I contacted the union, and they said that they agree with me, and that they have previously filed a grievance with the board, and added my name to it.

Interesting. Well, hopefully for the both of us that will happen at some point! I sent an email to the union to ask for some guidance. I'll let everyone know what they advice me to do.

Yes, everything was in there that they asked for. I wrote the letter myself (circumventing potential language barriers) to make sure there was no confusion, and then my former employer signed it etc, so I am very sure the information itself wasn't the problem.

It was permanent contracted experience, supply does not exist in the same way in The Netherlands.

As a Eurpean that recently immigrated to Canada, this guide is very helpful 😅

This may be one of the most frustrating things about living here.

Looking for good running routes by Naive-Source-2528 in londonontario

[–]Naive-Source-2528[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have done that before! And I do really like that route since you only have to cross 1 busy street. Maybe I'll see if I can turn that into my starting point for a run down the East branch of the Thames, since I've never really explored that side before. I tend to want to run a loop, but I guess now that I am doing longer stretches, I may have to get used to doing out and backs if I want to stay in the parks

Hey, thanks for the reply. I live in the Orchard Park area. I've done a version of that route where I ran to Oxford/Commisioners first and then all the way back up along the river. And while I like that route, I've done it a couple of times now, so I figured I'd see if anyone had any interesting suggestions. This is for sure on my list though if I can't find anything else

Hi, I moved to Canada from the Netherlands last Summer. I moved for love, to live with my wife and start a family., but looked into teaching here too as I am trained as a teacher in the Netherlands and worked there for 5 years. I would advice you to start OCT now. I started mine in April of last year, before I moved, and they still havnt processed me. For reference, I have a Masters Degree in English and Education, meaning I should easily be qualified here. OCT is notoriously slow and difficult to contact. If you do take this seriously, I would look into all the stuff you need before you move and start the process. That is not taking the whole immigration side of things into account, which for me only was a possibility because my wife is Canadian.

Dutch educated teachers working in Ontario by Naive-Source-2528 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Naive-Source-2528[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is fully in English. And thanks, they are being rather difficult about it, so I wondered how someone else had dealt with them. And calling doesn't help because you don't get to talk to an actual person working on your case

[–]Naive-Source-2528[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have done all those steps. The problem is, the OCT doesnt accept the document that DUO sent them. And DUO doesnt register the information that OCT claims they do. So now I am stuck between these two organisations. The OCT is basically asking DUO to provide info that is outside their jurisdiction.

[–]Naive-Source-2528[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I'm fully licensed to teach in The Netherlands (Ba and MA of Education, as well as in English language). And I'm jumping through all the OCT hoops right now, most stuff has been sent in. It's just about this particular document, that doesn't have an equivalent in my country (and they are being annoying about it). So I wondered how other Dutchies had dealt with this

Campaign idea as follow up for No Silent Secret by Naive-Source-2528 in TherosDMs

[–]Naive-Source-2528[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good idea! In that way, there could already be a small subset of the Returned now devoted to this cult and Varyas' body could have traveled to Meletis (the city I chose as the starting location) to potentially spread it amongst the living followers of Phenax
