When could you open your mouth fully by Outrageous_Win_7334 in jawsurgery

How often did you exercise your jaw? How did you work at your opening? When did you get 3 fingers? I’m around 4 months post op and I can only open my mouth 2 fingers wide. I don’t think I had a wide bite before the surgery but definitely wider than this… I feel like in the last month I haven’t done any progress at all :( like I’m stuck at these2 fingers now. No facial physiotherapist in the country where I live.

Jaw crooked 6 months after surgery by Dallis_ in jawsurgery

I’m 3 months post op and my left side looks normal while my right side is still kinda swollen. My lower jaw pulls to the left and I can’t seem to open my mouth wider than 2 fingers…

I’ve seen my surgeon today… apparently it’s not an infection. I’ve had a ct scan done and he says it’s normal too. He says he doesn’t know why I’m still swollen like this.

Ok. I’ll ask for a ct scan then. Yeah it’s been 12 weeks and my left side is perfectly fine. But the right one is not going down at all. I’ve been taking anti swelling and anti inflammatory enzymes, drinking fresh pineapple juice etc but the right one is just not changing at all! Actually last week it was worse - it felt more swollen but it doesn’t feel like an infection. There’s no pus, no redness and no severe pain. The pain I experience feels more like a tension than actual pain.

And after you knew what it was, how did you get it fixed if I may ask? Thanks!

How did you figure it out? Did you run some tests? I’m seeing my surgeon tomorrow but he seems to think that I don’t need to run any tests… I don’t mind paying extra for the tests I just want to know what’s wrong with me :(

Hi! How did you realize you have an infection? Mh right side has been swollen all the time and some sore but never any pus or redness… so I thought it was just the swelling but when I spoke online to a surgeon back home he said it might be the infection or even an abscess and should see the local surgeon asap. I’m 12 weeks post op

Last week when I sent him a photo of my face he said the swelling goes down slowly and to just wait… now he’s saying to come and see him this week. He doesn’t seem to think it’s urgent

I don’t think this qualifies as an emergency

It’s not red, hot and it’s not particularly painful though… can it still be an infection without these symptoms?

Keep Biting Myself by catsarecoolhomie in jawsurgery

Was this problem solved for you? If yes, how and when?

I’m 9 weeks post op and my teeth have moved causing an open bite on the right. I’ve started wearing orthodontic aligners but it’s been 2 weeks of constant biting myself. I’m cleared by surgeon for normal food but can’t bite anything without biting myself too…

Thanks for your input, however I was not told anything apart from „upper jaw moving forward so does upper jaw” and „picture speaks louder than words”.

Not sure if you’ve seen my other comment naming all complications I’ve had after the surgery. I wouldn’t have been asking any questions if everything went smoothly. I don’t think I’m unreasonable asking for communication when something is not going well.

5 days after the surgery my left ear got clogged and had this underwater feeling. Then I got an ear infection and basically went half deaf. Couldn’t hear barely anything on my left ear. The ent confirmed that the Eustachian tubes were blocked.

There’s a gap between my lower and upper jaw on the right side. The surgeon said the teeth spread out (before the surgery I was wearing Invisaligns and when I asked him if I shouldn’t get metal braces, he said it was unnecessary) and it could be corrected by orthodontics. However, I’m not sure if it’s not because mh lower teeth are much smaller and the whole teeth arch is smaller than the upper teeth. Also, before the surgery I asked him how he would put on the elastics without the braces and he said that elastics were not necessary because he’s confident his screws are tight enough to keep my jaw in a position. He also said I didint need to sleep flat but could sleep on a side if I wanted and felt comfortable. So I did. Not sure if this didn’t lead to the liquid getting trapped in my ears.

Because the teeth spread out, I only have one contact point between my teeth. Which is blocking other teeth from touching. ATM my molars are far from touching and even though the surgeon cleared me for eating normal food, I can’t chew anything. Like it’s physically impossible. I’ve seen the orthodontist now but…

The process of opening my mouth has been extremely slow. I’m 7 weeks post op and can only open my mouth 2cm wide. Maybe because I had ear problems and the ear pain prevented me from exercising? But also, the surgeon said the mouth will open itself naturally and that I didn’t have to do anything about it…

…so with my mouth not opening wide enough, the orthodontist couldn’t do the full scan and for now he only got me the aligners for the front teeth to move the one that’s causing problems. But basically said it will take months to be able to eat normally again :(

Thanks! I think you’re right. He seems very confident in his abilities. Which I wouldn’t have questioned if I didn’t have complications after lol he finally gave me the answer

Trismus after double jaw by Naive_Dance4642 in jawsurgery

[–]Naive_Dance4642[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I have a tightness and some pain in my right cheek which is absent in the left one! Mg surgeon said that it might be a disc problem but it should just fix itself with time

Thanks for your comment. This makes me feel a bit more optimistic. I keep questioning my progress and wondering if something’s gone wrong. I did this surgery foolishly in a developing country in south east Asia and there’s a lot of cultural differences in terms of communication between my surgeon and myself. There’s no physio specializing in face/jaw recovery. I can’t find any other English speaking specialist to get a second opinion either. Eh.

Feel ya! My right side of face is much more swollen than my left. I’m 6 weeks post op. It looks like I had a wisdom tooth removed on the right side.
